Under the direction of the RN, demonstrate competency in basic direct patient care, throughput processes, unit-specific complex skills and additional functionality as required by the unit.

Must demonstrate effective communication, interpersonal skills, teamwork, organization and prioritization skills.

Is responsible for designated equipment and supplies used in the care of assigned patients.

Must be flexible in changing assignments, workload and learning new skills.

Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.

Will be utilized in EC/ED area only.

Demonstrates competency in the physical care of the patient according to system/unit patient care standards, including the following as appropriate for the unit.

Personal care for all body systems, including bathing, oral hygiene, perineal care, linen changes and hair care.

Pre and postop/ procedure care.

Post-mortem care.

Patient in restraints.

Placement of electrodes for cardiac, respiratory and/or fetal monitoring.

Assisting with ambulation and exercise.

Patient with infectious disease including TB, hepatitis, AIDS, including those requiring isolation.

Correct positioning of patients in beds, chairs, and specialty surfaces.

Transfer of patient (e.g.

bed to chair, bed to commode or back). Transportation of patients on wheelchair, stretcher, bed, etc.

Demonstrates competency in skin care protocols and care.

Accurately performs/ documents intake/ output, vital signs, weights and other monitoring, including computerized charting.

Promptly notifies physician/provider of abnormal vital signs, observations, physical complaints, etc.

Patient with latex allergies.

Assist in identifying patients at risk for falls and preventing falls.

Maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment for the patient, including correct handling of body fluids and appropriate cleaning of equipment between patients.

Demonstrates utilization of proper body mechanics and appropriate lift techniques/ resources.

Demonstrates competency in fingerstick technique for glucose monitoring.

Utilizes blood glucose monitor appropriately.

Performs QC for point of care lab testing as required.

Other unit specific activities.

Demonstrates competency in performing the following tasks under the Paramedic Scope of Practice: Bag valve mask ventilation, suction, chest tube monitoring, gastric decompression, assessment of vital signs, ability to complete patient assessment, blood chemistry analysis, CPR, AED, Cardioversion defibrillation, 12 lead EKG, EKG monitoring and interpretation, ability to perform manual, chemical and mechanical restraints.

In the event of trauma situations - trauma scribe, C-spine immobilization, stabilize orthopedic trauma, bleeding control, eye irrigation, soft tissue injury management.

Pharmacological interventions - venipuncture phlebotomy, peripheral IV Insertion/removal (including EJ), IO insertion/removal, crystalloid IV fluids, glucagon/D50W/oral glucose, narcotics, SL nitroglycerine, narcotic antagonists, ACLS medications, maintain infusion of blood/blood products, administration of over-the-counter medications with appropriate medical direction, other medications as approved by EC medical director and as ordered by the EC provider.

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Completion of accredited Paramedic Program.

Must have current unencumbered State of Georgia Paramedic license.

Must be certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic cardiac rhythms.

1 year of paramedic experience required Must be able to work with accuracy, particularly in reporting patient observations to the nurse/clinician in charge.

Must be able to adapt to changing areas of assignment.

Must be able to utilize common sense and good judgment when required to make independent decisions.

Must be able to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with patients, patients' families, physicians, and co-workers.

Must be able to adapt to varying patterns of supervision.

Must demonstrate understanding that errors in giving treatments and providing care could have a detrimental effect on the patient.

Must be able to utilize discretion in handling confidential information.

Must demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills.

Must be able to work irregular schedules, holidays, and weekends due to staffing and census fluctuations.
