Position Summary:
The Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University is seeking an innovative, dynamic and collaborative faculty member to serve as an Anatomical Sciences Educator in the undergraduate medical education (UME) curriculum.
The Anatomical Sciences Educator will join a team of faculty who teach throughout the pre-clerkship curriculum and will have a primary focus on integrated anatomy instruction in both classroom and laboratory settings. In addition, the successful candidate will have opportunities to teach in other disciplines aligned with experience and expertise, such as pathology or histology.
The Anatomical Sciences Educator’s responsibilities are primarily:
Teaching and Related Activities
Create and present educational sessions that meet established learning objectives for anatomy instruction and collaborate with faculty to integrate material across courses.
Serve as an anatomy lab instructor throughout the first-year curriculum, including all organ systems and structures covered in the Fundamentals of Biomedical Sciences course and the Neuroscience and Behavior course.
Assist in the creation of cadaveric prosected specimens for instructional use.
Staff weekly open lab hours to provide additional guidance and support to students.
Develop and conduct technology-based educational sessions.
Assist with preparation and administration of anatomy exams and assessments.
Create and present educational sessions in other foundational sciences aligned with expertise such as embryology, histology, neuroscience, physiology and/or pathology.
Serve as a facilitator for small group problem-based learning sessions (PBL, IQ, SLIQ) and other case-based teaching sessions.
Serve as a course director within the UME program as opportunities arise.
Participate in course grading committees and assist with course remediation as applicable.
Assess and respond to quality improvement needs as applicable throughout the curriculum.
Serve as an instructor in the College of Medicine graduate programs as opportunities arise.
Advise and mentor medical students as well as graduate students and residents, as applicable.
Scholarship and Related Activities
Remain updated with advancements in anatomical sciences and medical education.
Conduct scholarly work related to medical education, anatomy, pathology, histology, clinical practice, or other areas of interest.
College of Medicine and University Service
Serve on College of Medicine and University committees as required or requested.
Clinical Activities
Clinical work may be possible based on candidate qualifications and practice opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:• An MD or DO, or PhD in Anatomy or closely related field.
• For MD and DO candidates, Florida medical licensure is required upon hire. ABMS or AOA board eligibility or certification is required.
Desired Qualifications:
• ABMS or AOA board specialization in Anatomic Pathology, Forensic Pathology, Surgery or other related discipline is preferred.
• 3 to 5 years of teaching experience, preferably in classroom and laboratory settings
• Experience in medical education
• Experience in teaching anatomic dissection
• Experienced use of technology-based instructional methods
• Demonstrated track record of scholarship and closely related activities (i.e., invited lectures, enduring materials, peer-reviewed publications and/or grant-funded projects)
