Steampunk is looking for a knowledgeable and skilled Technical Policy Analyst/Writer to join our team and support our work with the United States federal government. Contributions

Responsibilities:

As a Technical Policy Analyst/Writer, you will help shape policies and procedures in the ever-evolving landscape of IT security, technology, and business operations. You will work with senior leaders and project stakeholders to facilitate the development of enterprise directives and polices governing applications and technologies. You will help our partners navigate the complex world of technology and security, ensuring that they have the tools and expertise needed to protect critical government assets and data.

Draft, revise, and implement agency policies and SOPs that mandate the use of a particular (Salesforce-based) application for specific procedures and records management.

Ensure all policies clearly define roles, responsibilities, and compliance requirements for agency staff and stakeholders.

Ensure policies are comprehensive, clear, and aligned with agency priorities and requirements. Maintain comprehensive documentation of policy drafts, approvals, revisions, and enforcement activities.

Collaborate with Salesforce administrators and technical teams to ensure policies accurately reflect system functionality and security protocols.

Collaborate with agency leadership and application stakeholders to review and refine those policies, procedures, and guidelines; ensure they align with federal regulations, security standards, and best practices.

Work with the project team, including Disruption Designer(s) and Project or Program Manager(s), to drive organizational change through the promotion of the application as an enterprise tool.

Identify gaps between current business practices / policy documentation and what is needed to enforce the use of the system; recommend process changes or system enhancements as needed.

Present policy updates and adoption progress to executive stakeholders, maintaining professionalism and clarity in all communications.

Manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently with a strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills. This includes setting goals, timelines, and tracking progress.

Work closely with IT teams, security teams, legal teams, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that IT policies and directives align with the organization's goals and security requirements.

Conduct research and synthesizing information from various sources and preparing detailed reports, briefings, and presentations, whether related to policy recommendations themselves or the legal and ethical implications of policies.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Ability to hold a position of public trust with the US government.

Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience in policy analysis, government relations, or related fields, with a focus on data policy, technology policy, cybersecurity, AI ethics, compliance, etc.

Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for effectively communicating policies and procedures to employees, management, and stakeholders with the ability to convey complex information clearly to a diverse audience

Technical Writing: Ability to draft clear and actionable policies, SOPs, and communications for technical and non-technical audiences; Policy Development: Strong skills in policy development and governance. This includes the ability to create, review, and update policies related to IT security, data security, privacy, and compliance. Familiarity with the process for establishing new agency guidelines and regulations.

Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and evolving policy landscapes and quickly learn and apply new information or techniques

Executive Exposure: Proven experience liaising with executive leadership, senior government officials, and high-level stakeholders, maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, discretion, and clarity in all communications.

Preferred:

Possesses at least one professional certification relevant to the service provided (Salesforce, PMP, Prosci Change Management, CIPP, CISSP).

Experience developing, updating and managing policies for a federal organization. DHS preferred.

The projected compensation range for this position is $80,000 to $150,000. The estimate displayed represents a typical annual salary range for this position.
