Technical Writer

Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Technical Writer with a strong background in creating, maintaining, and managing technical documentation, system architecture diagrams, and compliance reports. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a structured environment, be well-versed in documentation standards, and possess advanced skills in Microsoft Office 365 tools.

Must live in proximity to Rockville, MD Key Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including user manuals, system design documentation, process flows, and architecture overviews.

Create and update compliance documentation and audit-ready reports in alignment with industry and internal standards (e.g., ISO, SOC, GDPR).

Collaborate with engineers, developers, and subject matter experts to gather information and ensure technical accuracy.

Maintain document version control and consistency in content, format, and structure.

Implement and enforce documentation standards and best practices across the organization.

Assist in the creation of templates and tools to streamline document creation and maintenance.

Manage documentation libraries using Office 365 tools (SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Support cross-functional teams in preparing materials for audits, reviews, and technical assessments. Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

3+ years of experience in technical writing, preferably within IT, software development, or compliance-heavy environments.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams).

Strong understanding of documentation standards (e.g., Microsoft Style Guide, Chicago Manual of Style, ISO documentation formats).

Experience documenting technical systems, architectures, APIs, and compliance workflows.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise documentation.

Preferred:

Experience with tools such as Confluence, Visio, Lucidchart, or similar.

Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR).

Basic understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) and enterprise IT systems.
