Sunny Hollow Montessori is growing! We are excited to welcome a Behavior Interventionist in the 2025-2026 school year.

Reports to: Student Support Coordinator

Department: Student Support

Employment status: Full-time

FLSA classification: Non-exempt

Work location: This is a full-time, onsite position. Remote work is not available.

Position Summary

The Behavior Interventionist supports students in achieving social-emotional growth and positive behavior development in alignment with Montessori philosophy. The ideal candidate will work closely with faculty, administrators, and families to develop and implement individualized behavior support plans that uphold respect for the child and promote independence, responsibility, and peace education.

Required Education & Experience

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Applied Behavior Analysis, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Montessori training or certification, preferred.

Experience:

Experience working with children in educational or therapeutic settings, ideally within a Montessori environment.

Experience supporting neurodiverse learners or students with IEPs/504 Plans, preferred.

Certifications & Competencies:

Knowledge of behavior intervention techniques, such as Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (Dr. Ross Greene), and restorative practices.

Familiarity with Montessori philosophy or willingness to learn and apply Montessori principles in behavioral work.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.

Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and solution-focused in challenging situations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Collaborate with Student Support Coordinator and faculty to assess student behavior and identify root causes.

Develop and implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) using positive, proactive, and restorative approaches.

Observe students in the classroom and other school environments to provide data-driven insight and guidance.

Model and coach Montessori-aligned strategies to staff for managing challenging behaviors.

Provide direct support to students in crisis or exhibiting high levels of behavioral need.

Participate in team meetings (e.g., MTSS, IEP) and contribute to the development of appropriate accommodations and supports.

Collaborate with families to ensure consistency of behavioral strategies across school and home settings.

Maintain accurate documentation and progress of reports regarding student behavior interventions and outcomes.

Provide professional development or in-service training for staff on behavior management and de-escalation techniques.

Support a peaceful school environment by promoting social-emotional learning (SEL) and conflict resolution practices.

Physical Requirements

Ability to move frequently between classrooms, hallways, and outdoor environments throughout the school day.

Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and reach as needed to support students at their physical level (including young children).

Ability to respond quickly and physically support students during escalated or crisis situations, which may require de-escalation or guiding students to safe spaces.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds occasionally (e.g., educational materials, sensory equipment, or in rare cases, physically guiding a student).

Visual and auditory acuity to observe behavior, assess environments, and respond effectively in dynamic settings.

Work Environment

The Behavior Interventionist works in a dynamic Montessori school environment that includes classrooms, offices, common areas, and outdoor spaces. The role involves regular interaction with students across a wide age range, often in active or emotionally heightened situations. This position requires flexibility, quick responsiveness, and the ability to maintain a calm and supportive presence. The environment may occasionally be physically demanding, including walking long distances across campus, navigating stairs, and being exposed to varying noise levels. The Behavior Interventionist may also work closely with faculty, administrators, and families in collaborative settings, both indoors and outdoors.
