The City of Surprise City Attorney's Office is seeking a Civil Attorney who desires to be a part of a small, tightknit municipal law office. The experience, skill, and talent of our professionals complement each other and allow the City Attorney's Office to provide expedient, quality, legal advice. Attorneys may be assigned and asked to focus on specific departments and/or areas of legal practice based on the attorney's experience and/or preferences. However, all assistant and deputy city attorneys will be required and expected to competently perform legal work for any and all departments in need of legal services. We are looking for an attorney who will appreciate the challenge of handling diverse legal matters, offering creative, yet sound legal advice, all in an effort to assist the City in achieving its objectives and goals for improving the quality of life for the City's residents.

Incumbents perform duties with minimal supervision. Incumbents advise staff and public officials on legal matters, applying in-depth knowledge and experience to successfully resolve a wide variety of City issues in areas of law such as land use and development, contracts, labor and employment, and litigation. Incumbents also review and draft a variety of legal documents and attend various City and community meetings.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Juris Doctor
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must be a member of the State Bar of Arizona and possess a current and active license to practice law in the State of Arizona; both are required by the commencement of the position and both must be maintained while in the position.

Salary Range: Starts at $115,857.30
SUMMARY
Incumbents perform duties with minimal supervision. Incumbents advise staff and public officials on legal matters, applying in-depth knowledge and experience to successfully resolve a wide variety of City issues in areas of law such as land use and development, contracts, labor and employment, and litigation. Incumbents also review and draft a variety of legal documents and attend various City and community meetings.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Juris Doctor and at least five years related legal experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed in the job description. Additional education cannot be substituted for experience.

Incumbents also review and draft a variety of legal documents and attend various City and community meetings.

Juris Doctor and 10 years of relevant legal experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed in the job description. Additional education cannot be substituted for experience.
