Student Behavior Support Specialist
Reports to: Assistant Superintendent of Safety & Support Services
Position Type: Full-Time / 10 months
Job Summary
The Student Support Specialist is responsible for supporting student behavior through the implementation of Tier 1 (school-wide) and Tier 2 (targeted) interventions. This position works closely with students, teachers, administrators, and support staff to create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment by promoting pro-social behaviors and reducing disruptions.
The Student Support Specialist will work with School Based Problem-Solving teams to:
Determine appropriate interventions for behaviors
Complete observations of students
Model interventions and data collection
Participate in monthly review meetings for students Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Tier 1 (Universal Supports)
Collaborate with staff to implement and maintain school-wide MTSS behavior systems.
Support teachers in delivering social-emotional learning (SEL) and behavior expectations.
Assist with data collection and analysis to inform behavior supports across all students.
Provide classroom modeling or co-teaching of behavior expectations and SEL lessons.
Participate in school-wide behavior team meetings and professional development. Tier 2 (Targeted Supports)
Identify students needing Tier 2 behavioral support using data (e.g., office discipline referrals, attendance, teacher recommendations).
Implement targeted behavior interventions such as Check-In/Check-Out (CICO), social skills groups, and behavior contracts.
Monitor student progress and collect data to assess effectiveness of interventions.
Communicate regularly with students, families, and staff regarding progress and supports.
Participate in problem-solving teams to develop and revise individual support plans.
Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and other staff to provide wrap-around services. Tier 3 (Intensive Supports)
Collaborate with Tier II team and analyze Tier II data to create a targeted individualized behavior intervention plan.
Model effective implementation of behavior intervention plans
Consult with teachers on how to effectively analyze student outcome data
Conduct monthly fidelity checks to monitor effectiveness of behavior interventions Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, counseling, or related field (preferred).
Prior experience working with children or youth in educational or behavioral settings. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Understanding of PBIS, MTSS, or similar behavioral frameworks.
Strong interpersonal skills; able to build positive relationships with students and staff.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Skill in collecting, organizing, and using behavior data to drive decisions.
Ability to de-escalate situations and support students with empathy and consistency. Working Conditions
May require movement throughout classrooms, hallways, and common areas.
May involve working directly with students exhibiting challenging behaviors.
Possible need for physical intervention training depending on district policies.
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated annually by the designated administrator based on district policy and responsibilities outlined.
An extensive background check is required.
