Location: This is a hybrid position based out of our Golden Valley, MN location with regular travel to our other locations in Minnesota. Subject to change as business needs dictate. Must live in or have easy access to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

Job Summary: The Director of Information Systems oversees the strategic planning, implementation, and management of Animal Humane Society’s software, data, and technology infrastructure, ensuring an integrated and holistic approach to enterprise systems, digital platforms, cybersecurity, and data systems to drive innovation and support AHS goals and objectives. This role is responsible for supervising the Information Systems department staff and overseeing all organizational technology to ensure that users have the technology needed to complete their jobs securely and efficiently. This role requires a deep understanding of IT infrastructure and an advanced level ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
Essential Functions:
Strategy:
Cultivate a business partner model to understand and support the software, data, and technology needs of AHS teams.
Develop and implement IT strategies to meet the organization's technology needs and improve efficiency.
Collaborate with executive leadership to align IT initiatives with organizational goals and ensure return on technology investments.
Manage the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise systems and applications.
Ensure the integrity and security of data and systems through comprehensive risk management, cybersecurity practices, and disaster recovery planning.
Oversee vendor selection, contract negotiation, and the management of outsourced IT services.
IT Operations:
Plan and coordinate technology installations, upgrades, and maintenance.
Oversee the efficient operation of the IT helpdesk and provide advanced-level technical support and troubleshooting for IT-related issues.
Purchase new computers, printers, monitors, devices, network and other equipment.
Ensure the secure and efficient operation of all computer systems, related applications, hardware, and software.
Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Stay up to date with advances in technology and industry best practices.
Leadership:
Lead and mentor the Information Systems team, including the system administrator and computer support specialist.
Conduct one-on-one meetings with direct reports to ensure team members have the resources and support to be successful.
Address and resolve any issues or conflicts within the team.
Review and approve timecards and requested time off within payroll deadlines, working closely with employees to resolve discrepancies.
Prepare and manage departmental budgets, forecasts, and capital expenditures.
Communication and Culture:
Provide a customer-oriented approach, communicating at all stages of ticket.
Communicate in a positive and professional manner with customers, other employees, and volunteers.
Promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion to make AHS a welcoming environment for all.
Technology:
Monitor IT ticketing software.
Monitor AHS email and other messaging software.
Other duties as assigned.
Additional Information:
Schedule and Attendance:
Regular, predictable attendance, punctuality, and availability to work during operational hours.
Attend and participate in regular team meetings, leadership meetings, all-staff meetings, and one-on-one meetings with direct leader.
Must be able to travel to a different work site based on department needs
May be required to attend occasional off-site meetings and events.
Work Environment:
Primarily office/desk based.
Adjacent animal shelter areas may be humid, noisy, or odorous.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Experience:
6+ years of leadership experience in information systems and working with Microsoft server infrastructure for a mid to large size organization, Microsoft 365, Windows Active Directory, and PowerShell required.
Skills:
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Excellent technical skills and the ability to troubleshoot hardware and software.
Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Physical Demands:
Prolonged sitting at a desk.
Must be able to lift, carry, and handle items up to 50 lbs. unassisted. For items over 50 lbs., assistance from another team member is required.
Emotional Demands:
Must be comfortable with the emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of humane euthanasia.
Transportation:
Reliable transportation required.
