Quality Control & Inspection
• In-depth understanding of structural steel detailing, fabrication processes, welding symbols, blueprint reading, and construction standards (e.g., AISC, AWS).
• Help QA/QC in maintaining AISC Certifications.
• Oversee and enforce welding procedures, material specifications, and fabrication tolerances.
• Conduct inspections of raw materials, material identification, fit up, in-process work, weld final and finished products.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards such as AWS D1.1, D1.8, AISC, AESS and other requirements
• Help with internal non-conformance reports (NCRs).
• Help with Internal Corrective Action Reports (CAR).
Quality Assurance & Process Improvement
• Work with PE/PM and production teams to resolve quality issues.
• Help perform quality analytics to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement including training or personnel adjustments.
• Proficient in computer skills including software such as Microsoft Office and Tekla.
• Provide guidance, and ensure adherence to code, standards, and QA/QC protocols.
• Work with fabrication leadership to address quality challenges in areas such as drawings, fitting, welding, painting, and shipping.
Documentation & Compliance
• Ensure adherence to project specifications, client requirements, and regulatory codes.
• Ensure correct revisions are being utilized in production.
• Ensure maintenance of Quality documents including revisions of drawings
Customer & Project Coordination
• Collaborate with PE/PM, and inspectors to address quality concerns.
• Participate in pre-job meetings to define quality expectations.
• Communicate with internal parties regarding quality matters.
• Act as a liaison between departments, including production, project management, and project engineers.
• Verbal and written communication abilities for engagement with internal stakeholders.
Testing & Certification
• Help supervise welder qualifications and ensure they are properly certified as requested by the QA/QC manager.
• Coach employees in best practices in quality and welding.
• Oversee non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as ultrasonic, radiographic, and magnetic particle testing.
• Help coordinate with third-party inspectors and certification bodies as needed to aliviate load from QA/QC manager.
• Oversee welding is being conducted in accordance with proper codes, standards, and quality requirements.
