ABOUT THE COURT

Los Angeles Superior Court is the largest unified trial court in the United States. Its 580 judges and commissioners work in one of the 36 facilities within the Court's 12 judicial districts and are supported by more than 5,000 full-time Court employees. The Court has an annual budget of more than $1 billion. Located in Southern California, Los Angeles County is geographically one of the nation's largest counties, covering 4,752 square miles and, with over 10 million residents, is also one of its most populous counties.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Data Scientist is responsible for performing advanced-level research and analysis to provide reliable, empirical answers to significant business questions related to a wide range of management issues, including: evaluation of court programs and procedures; creation of performance indicators; and gathering basic data about court operations. In each of these areas, the Data Scientist may be involved in defining metrics, identifying possible sources of data, assessing the quality and reliability of those data, data modeling, and creating graphical and written presentations of the results.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet one of the following options at the time of application:

OPTION I: A bachelor's degree* with a major in public or business administration or a closely related field -AND- three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in data analytics and statistical analysis, including the ability to collect, interpret, and present data to support program evaluation and policy recommendations.

OPTION II: A master's degree* in public or business administration or a closely related field -AND- one (1) year of progressively responsible experience in data analytics and statistical analysis, including the ability to collect, interpret, and present data to support program evaluation and policy recommendations.

OPTION III: Seven (7) years progressively responsible experience in data analytics and statistical analysis, including the ability to collect, interpret, and present data to support program evaluation and policy recommendations.

DEGREE VERIFICATION

To qualify for Options I or II, a legible copy of your college diploma -OR- official transcripts with the degree or units posted from the college or university must be attached when your application is submitted. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONSThe ideal candidate will possess the following desirable qualifications:

Excellent oral and written communication skills with all levels of staff, including external departments and outside agencies.

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power BI at an expert level.

Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Knowledge of the Snowflake environment.

Demonstrated experience in:

Translating business intelligence requirements into data requirements.

Creating dashboards and reports to fit requirements that present data in a manner than can be easily interpreted and relied upon for decision making.

Creating and performing data quality control and assurance tests.

Creating and using data models and relational databases.

Creating and using extract, test and load routines.

Performing analyses of time series, geo-spatial and operations engineering data.

Responding quickly to ad hoc requests for data or analysis.

Using one or more statistical or analytics packages (e.g., STATA, SPSS, ArcGIS).

Performing basic SQL queries to select data and manipulate data sets.
