Job Description
Summary
The Design Engineer will develop and design ideas for new products along with modifying existing products and/or processes to increase efficiency or quality. This position is responsible for making products that meet client requirements and ensuring that the product can be made cost-effectively and efficiently.
The hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm. Additional hours will be required based on business needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provide communication and guidance regarding project materials to use, how to build, etc. on all projects to Estimator
Review projects with Sales/PMs from prototype stage through production stage to ensure accuracy of details and follow up regarding any missing information required to engineer product
Prioritize prototype and project schedules based on deadline
Create AutoCAD/SolidWorks drawings for overall views of the project at hand (front view, side view, etc) and individual parts with dimensions and detailed descriptions.
Obtain drawing approval from Sales team for prototype building
Collaborate with Purchasing on specific material requirements to ensure availability for use in respective project
Enter in JobBoss (ERP system) the required materials from sheet goods to various hardware
Review and effectively communicate with purchasing department when materials need to be ordered
Collaborate with prototype department on required expectations and steps to create the sample by receiving and providing input from sales team and/or Prototype Specialist and notating any changes
Review prototype CNC programs with the machining department, advising of sheet layouts, etc.
Inform production department of the prototype and project details, including timeline of project, and any specific instructions
Answer questions on projects and/or review items with shop employees
Suggest process improvements and cost savings on various projects
Expected to maintain high level of understanding of material options, pros/cons, general pricing structure, etc. as well as stay up to date on current market conditions of materials
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or work experience in the display industry required
Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a design engineer or structural engineer
Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks, Adobe Illustrator required
Must have previous work experience with CNC Programming, tooling for machining required
POP/product display industry experience highly preferred
Experience with MS Excel required and JobBOSS experience a plus.
Work experience with plastics, woodworking, cabinetry design, and printing preferred
