The Student Worker supports the Facilities Department by performing light maintenance tasks and assisting in inventorying equipment, systems, and room locations throughout the healthcare facility. This May–August summer position is ideal for a student interested in gaining hands-on experience in facility operations, maintenance processes, and asset management.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist maintenance staff with basic tasks such as changing light bulbs, minor repairs, organizing supplies, and general upkeep.
Conduct walkthroughs of facility areas to inventory equipment, building systems (e.g., HVAC units, panels), and room use/function.
Record and update asset and location information in spreadsheets, maintenance management software, or inventory systems.
Label equipment and storage areas as directed.
Help keep maintenance shops and supply areas clean and organized.
Communicate clearly with staff to verify room purposes and asset placements.
Perform visual inspections of assigned areas for cleanliness, condition, and safety concerns; report findings to supervisor.
Follow safety protocols and infection control procedures at all times.
Other duties as assigned in support of the department’s needs.
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in high school or college.
Interest in facility management, engineering, healthcare operations, or a related field is preferred.
Ability to follow directions, work independently, and pay attention to detail.
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, etc.) for data entry and inventory tracking.
Good organizational and communication skills.
Ability to walk, stand, and carry light loads (up to 25 lbs) for extended periods.
Punctual, reliable, and professional.
Working Conditions:
Indoor and occasional outdoor work in various parts of a healthcare facility.
Requires movement between departments, mechanical spaces, and administrative areas.
PPE provided as needed for tasks and safety.
