Serve as an NCQA contracted professional to conduct accreditation and certification surveys, based on NCQA survey volume and need, throughout the United States and US territories.

Compensation is via honoraria per survey event completed. Based on their professional experience, surveyors engage with healthcare leaders during a survey to assess how they are implementing NCQA standards in the following program areas:

Health Plan Accreditation

Population Health Program Accreditation

Case Management

Utilization Management

Credentialing

Credentials Verification Organization

Long Term Services and Supports

Managed Behavioral Health Organization

Wellness and Health Promotion

Health Equity Accreditation

NCQA surveyors, who can fulfill either administrative, clinician, or physician roles during a survey based on the survey type and the role to be filled, work collaboratively with NCQA staff in a variety of NCQA departments including, but not limited to Accreditation Operations and Accreditation Policy, to ensure that all surveys are completed in adherence to NCQA’s mission and high level of excellence.

Responsibilities:

Demonstrate in-depth, ongoing knowledge of NCQA standards, including the intent, applicable look-back periods, evidence required to demonstrate compliance, and NCQA’s scoring methodology.

Effectively use NCQA’s standards and guidelines and the survey tool, Interactive Review Tool (IRT), to evaluate and score standards.

Adhere to all NCQA policies and procedures regarding assessing compliance with standards and conducting the survey according to the NCQA surveyor agreement.

Conduct at least four surveys per calendar year (January 1- December 31), including the completion of two surveys within the first six months following the completion of new surveyor training.

Respond to NCQA’s requests in a timely manner to fill surveys with a surveyor need, referred to as open survey slots.

Fulfill accepted surveyor assignments. Refrain from cancelling accepted survey assignments unless due to serious emergencies.

Complete surveyor conflict of interest agreements before the start of each survey assignment.

Complete survey reviews on time for each stage of the survey.

Work collaboratively and professionally with NCQA staff in conducting all surveys.

Respond to questions from NCQA staff regarding interpretation of standards within 2 business days. NCQA staff are the final interpreters of the standards, and surveyors follow the interpretations provided.

Complete all NCQA surveyor feedback surveys timely, including the peer review feedback following each survey, and the annual surveyor feedback questionnaire administered in the first quarter of each calendar year.

Maintain strict confidentiality regarding survey findings and interactions with all NCQA stakeholders per the surveyor agreement.

Provide feedback regarding NCQA standards development via involvement in public comment periods regarding new or revised standards, if surveyor feedback is solicited.

Participate in ongoing NCQA education programming regarding standards interpretation and implementation of the survey process.

Education programming may include approximately 4 – 6 virtual events throughout the year.

Education Requirement:

Administrative Surveyors: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a healthcare discipline

Clinician Surveyors: Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN), Physician Assistant (PA), Registered Nurse (RN), and Practical Nurse (LPN)

Physician Surveyors: Maintain a current, unrestricted professional license as a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)

Experience Requirement:

5+ years of management-level experience in the healthcare field.

Knowledge of NCQA's accreditation/certification programs.

Direct work experience that demonstrates knowledge of multiple NCQA accreditation/certification programs and the survey process to survey a variety of NCQA programs a plus.

Compensation & Benefits:

Honoraria pay of $250 - $1500 per survey, depending on the type of survey.

This position is contract based and does not offer any benefits.
