Position Overview
The Volunteer Manager oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Louisiana SPCA’s volunteer program. This includes recruiting and onboarding volunteers, coordinating training and development, managing event support, and ensuring the alignment of volunteer efforts with organizational goals. This role works closely with staff across departments to meet program needs, promote engagement, and ensure a positive, productive experience for all volunteers.

Volunteer Engagement & Customer Service Excellence
Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and mission-driven volunteer environment.
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure volunteers are integrated into programs and services where they can make meaningful contributions.
Build and maintain positive relationships with external partners, schools, businesses, and community groups to promote engagement and collaboration.
Serve as the main point of contact for all volunteers and community partners, fostering trust, collaboration, and accountability.
Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and ensure volunteers are supported and aligned with organizational goals.
Address any issues or challenges that may arise within the volunteer program, ensuring a positive and productive experience for all involved.
Recruitment & Onboarding
Develop and implement strategic recruitment campaigns to attract a diverse pool of volunteers.
Lead all onboarding activities including screening, orientation, and placement to ensure a smooth transition into service roles.
Maintain up-to-date volunteer records and data in volunteer management systems.
Training & Development
Design and deliver training opportunities to prepare volunteers for success and promote retention.
Coordinate continuing education and enrichment programs that align with volunteer interests and organizational needs.
Implement recognition and reward initiatives to celebrate volunteer contributions and promote morale.
Event Coordination
Serve as the lead coordinator for all volunteer-supported events (including adoption drives, and community outreach), ensuring they are staffed appropriately with trained, reliable volunteers.
Manage the entire volunteer event workflow—from recruitment and scheduling to onsite coordination and post-event evaluation.
Work cross-functionally with internal departments (e.g., development, shelter, veterinary, community outreach) to understand event needs and secure adequate volunteer support.
Ensure that every event reflects the values and professionalism of the Louisiana SPCA through clear communication, preparedness, and strong volunteer engagement.
Attend events as needed to oversee volunteer logistics and ensure smooth execution.
Evaluate event outcomes and volunteer participation to inform future planning and improvements.
Serve as a key representative at events to support recruitment, visibility, and community engagement.
Inventory & Supply Management
Manage volunteer-related inventory including uniforms, supplies, and event materials.
Collaborate with HR and other departments to ensure resources are adequately stocked and tracked.
Implement systems for efficient distribution and restocking of materials.
Collaboration & Organizational Alignment
Collaborate with staff members to identify volunteer needs and opportunities, ensuring the volunteer program supports the organization’s goals.
Work with department leads to assess where volunteers can enhance operational efficiency or programmatic support.
Provide input into cross-departmental planning and strategy sessions as it relates to volunteer involvement.
Requirements
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or 3–5 years of experience in volunteer coordination, nonprofit program management, or community engagement.
Demonstrated ability to manage large groups, coordinate logistics, and build positive relationships across diverse populations.
Highly Proficient with volunteer management platforms and productivity software (e.g., Better Impact, Excel, etc.).
Must be 25+, have a valid State of Louisiana driver’s license, and a clean driving record.

Other Requirements
Must not be allergic to animals or nut products.
Must be able to work in close proximity to a variety of animals; potential for exposure to bites, scratches, and allergens.
Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds; bend, twist, reach, push, and pull heavy objects.
Must be able to act as a first responder in emergency situations.
Schedule may vary week to week; weekend and evening availability required.

Salary Range:
$55,000 – $65,000 per year (commensurate with experience)
