Assistant Principals aid in leading a comprehensive middle or high school and are held accountable for delivering student results in alignment with agreed upon goals.

Compensation: Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. Performance incentives based on Charter School Performance Framework up to $7500 annually.
Summary: The Assistant Principal of Culture models how to build strong, mutually respectful relationships with students and families and supports teachers to do the same. In addition to serving on the school’s leadership team, this position oversees social-emotional learning, implementation of a progressive discipline process, campus supervision, college preparatory programming, student attendance systems, and manages all student life activities (i.e., college visits, incentives, etc.). The Assistant Principal of Culture also supports the principal in key instructional initiatives as needed. The Assistant Principal of Culture is a creative and inspiring educator with adult leadership experience, high energy, excellent organizational abilities, and a talent for creating a warm and supportive environment for children.
Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
Provide ongoing support, formal professional development, feedback and coaching to teachers in the areas of classroom management and social-emotional learning;
Facilitate staff professional development on student-teacher relationships, classroom management;
Oversee the After-School Program Coordinator and program;
Oversee the school’s athletics program and supervise the Athletic Director to ensure all student athletes meet organizational and state requirements as well as ensuring the program financial goals;
Coordinate all aspects of the high school matriculation process to ensure that eighth-grade students develop meaningful connection to the school and are continuously prepared for post-secondary life, including designing and hosting the annual High School Fair (High School AP-Cs will be responsible for recruiting 8th grade students from neighboring campuses and IOTA campuses);
Provide feedback to Elective courses (i.e., Art, Music, and Technology) and evaluate Science and History courses.
School Culture
Own the school’s character development program and ensure it builds and reinforces positive self-identity and necessary character strengths;
Partner with caregivers, families, and stakeholders to build authentic school-wide community;
Implement a school-wide behavior management system with meaningful incentives and developmentally appropriate consequences;
Work effectively with children who have behavior challenges and their families; partner with teachers and caregivers to execute individualized behavior interventions when needed;
Collaborate with mental health service providers to refer students with more extensive behavioral needs to the appropriate services;
Accurately monitor and analyze daily student attendance, homework, and discipline records; create and execute systems (e.g., truancy, Student Attendance Review Team meetings) to proactively address school’s areas of need;
Design incentives to maintain positive school culture and reinforce habits of success (e.g., incentives for good attendance, citizenship, etc.);
Coordinate and approve experiential learning lessons, including eighth-grade or twelfth-grade end-of-year trips;
Plan and/or approve select school-wide activities (e.g., Talent Show and College and Career Fair);
Lead and/or oversee student clubs and organizations (e.g., student government, club day, BETA Club) and school-wide student fundraising;
Supervise school arrival, breakfast, recess, lunch, dismissal, and transitions to ensure they are positive and orderly;
Coordinate and supervise safety plan (e.g., crisis team, building inspection, manage the emergency drill process, building keys and inventory, compliance laws);
Oversee community engagement and caregiver participation;
Supervise, manage, and evaluate instructional aides and campus security officers, including scheduling for before-school, after school, and lunch supervision and oversee their development;
Talent Management
Evaluate teachers as requested by the Principal; provide informal feedback to all staff members;
Support the School Principal in recruiting, interviewing, and selecting teachers;
Create professional growth plans for faculty as requested by the Principal, connecting professional development to their areas of growth;
Ensure faculty and staff adhere to IOTA policies and procedures;
Promote positive employee relationships/strong morale throughout the campus by monitoring key data (e.g., family survey, student SEL survey, etc.)
Responsible for time tracking training and pay period corrections/submissions for hourly staff as well as teacher absences or class coverages in ADP
Lead the substitute teacher process to ensure enough staffing daily as well as support guest teacher assignments in conjunction with the Office Coordinator
School Administration
Participate in regular administrative team and leadership team meetings;
Work closely with the Principal to support high-achievement academic culture;
Model the IOTA Community Schools core values at all times; be a visible and highly engaged leader in the school community;
Owns the school safety processes including administering trainings, coordinating drills, liaising with security vendor or nursing partner and meeting all authorizer requirements
Engage in other administrative duties as assigned by the Principal;
Available for contact with caregivers, students, and staff to discuss student growth and development outside formal school hours, including nights and weekends as needed;
Maintain work hours extending beyond school hours for other professional duties or functions such as staff meetings, supervision of student events, etc;
Maintain professional standards and a school environment that is productive, safe; and focused;
Participate in IOTA and individual professional development;
Plans and coordinates in other events aimed at promoting or developing the organization and its schools (e.g., student recruitment) including coordinating with transportation vendor (internal and external) for regular and field trip transportation
Miscellaneous
Other duties as assigned by the Principal that support academic and cultural excellence at IOTA.
Possess a work ethic and personal belief system that aligns with the mission and vision of IOTA.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to interact and forge relationships with students, parents, staff and community members;
Expertise in classroom management strategies and the ability to articulate these strategies to teachers, instructional aides, and direct reports
Proven track record of meeting extremely high standards for student achievement;
Bilingual (Spanish/English) highly preferred, as the Assistant Principal of Culture will be in frequent contact with parents and community members.

Education and Experience
At least 5 years of successful teaching experience, preferably in an urban school environment with English language learners
Successful experience leading adults as an Assistant Principal, department head/content leader, Instructional Coach, or Dean, or demonstrated promise to become an effective school leader;
Possession of valid Tennessee administration credentials are required;
Must have significant experience making data-driven decisions;
Strong knowledge of Google Platform and PowerSchool
KPIs:
100 percent of all emergency drills scheduled and held in alignment with authorizer and state requirements with drills meeting IOTA standards of excellence
The percent of students missing 10 percent or more of enrolled school days is considered meets or exceeds by the TN Charter School Performance Framework
Comparative Subgroup Performance to Resident District is considered meets or exceeds by the TN Charter School Performance Framework
The school meets or exceeds Section III of the Charter School Performance Framework
