Position Overview:
A school in the Sarasota, FL metropolitan area is seeking a qualified and dedicated School Counselor to support students' academic achievement, personal growth, and emotional well-being. This role involves providing counseling services, collaborating with staff and families, and contributing to a safe, supportive school climate.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide individual and group counseling to address academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs
Assist students with course selection, college and career planning, and goal setting
Support crisis intervention efforts and refer students to external resources when needed
Develop and implement a comprehensive counseling program aligned with school goals
Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to support student success
Promote a positive and inclusive school environment through guidance lessons and school-wide initiatives
Maintain accurate, confidential student records and documentation
Stay informed on best practices in student counseling and mental health
Qualifications:
Masters degree in School Counseling, Counseling, or a related field
Valid Florida Department of Education certification in Guidance and Counseling (K-12)
Strong knowledge of adolescent development, academic planning, and mental health support
Effective communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Experience working in an educational or counseling setting preferred
Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families
