Supervisor, Chemistry / Immunology
Department/Location: Department of Laboratories
Reports to: Administrative Director of Laboratories
Position Summary
The Supervisor, Chemistry/Immunology is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the operations of the Chemistry and Immunology laboratories. This includes ensuring quality testing, regulatory compliance, and efficient workflow. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in clinical laboratory science and possess excellent leadership and problem-solving skills.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Leadership and Management:
Oversee and manage laboratory staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, collaboration, and professional development.
Develop and implement departmental goals, objectives, and policies.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards, including CLIA, CAP, and NYSDOH.
Technical Expertise:
Possess in-depth knowledge of clinical chemistry and immunology principles, methodologies, and instrumentation.
Troubleshoot instrument malfunctions and implement corrective actions.
Monitor and optimize test performance, turnaround time, and quality control.
Stay current with advancements in laboratory technology and industry best practices.
Quality Assurance and Improvement:
Implement and maintain a robust quality assurance program to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
Analyze quality control data and identify trends or issues requiring corrective action.
Participate in performance improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of new laboratory services.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements, including CLIA, CAP, and NYSDOH.
Stay informed of regulatory changes and implement necessary updates.
Maintain accurate and complete documentation.
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field.
Master's degree in Clinical Chemistry preferred.
ASCP or NCA certification required.
Current NYS License or eligibility required.
Minimum of six years of relevant experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
