Job Description
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) under the direction of the RN Supervisor and the LPN to provide patient care according to individualized client needs in conformance with recognized nursing techniques, procedures, and established standards based on the scope of practical nursing. The CNA will be responsible for, but not limited to:
· Assist nurses in providing patient care through personal care, which will include personal hygiene assistance, assistance in preparing meals and feeding, and assistance in bathroom,
· Assist in the collection of assessment data and accurately recording data on appropriate form in patient’s chart. The data may include vital signs, height and weight, blood glucose, and the collection of specimens,
· Contribute to the development of the client plan of care based on the identified patient problems/needs,
· Perform basic nursing tasks and carry out RN and/or LPN directives accurately,
· Recognize and report promptly any deviations from patient’s normal assessment findings, behavior and physical status,
· Provide patient care using appropriate infection control and safety precautions
· Use safety devices appropriately (side rails, bed alarms, soft wrist restraints, waist restraints, gait belts and bed or wheelchair restraints per doctors’ orders),
· Utilize seizure precautions appropriately,
· Report potentially unsafe conditions and correct immediately (damp floors, loose hand bars or rails),
· Maintain good body mechanics for both patient and self in all patient care activities,
· Use safety when using all equipment such as feeding pumps, nebulization machines, wheelchairs, and humidification and oxygen tanks,
· Accompany to doctor appointments and outings as indicated,
· Assist patient to maintain an increase activity level
· Position patient in correct body alignment with use of appropriate devices,
· Perform simple range of motion exercises,
· Reinforce exercises taught,
· Assist patient in ambulating and transferring as indicated by activity level,
· Promptly report signs of activity intolerance (shortness of breath, increased pain, muscle spasm),
· Assist in the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients as directed,
· Attend mandatory in-service training and staff meetings as scheduled,
· Work collaboratively with other members of the health care team in coordination of the clients care as evidenced by other department feedback,
· Assist in maintaining a clean and wholesome work area and environment
· May drive patient to various appointments and activities as directed by RN Supervisor, or LPN,
Physical Requirements:
Sufficient physical ability to perform moderate or light lifting and carrying; walking and standing for prolonged periods of time; bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing ladders; operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
Able to sit or stand and walk throughout the scheduled work shift.
Ability to perform physical activities which require considerable use of arms, legs, and moving your whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling various materials.
Able to lift and move up to 60 lbs.
