The Assistant News Editor is responsible for assisting the News Editor in overseeing the news section, managing reporters, editing articles, writing weekly stories, attending weekly meetings, being on call for breaking news, and ensuring timely publication of news content. This role involves supporting the development of news stories, fact-checking, and maintaining journalistic standards.
Responsibilities
Job Responsibilities: Assist in Managing the News Section: Support the News Editor in planning and coordinating news coverage. Help develop story ideas and assign them to reporters. Assist in News Reporting: Help gather news by attending events, conducting interviews, and researching topics. Write and report on news stories as needed, contributing to the news section’s content. 1 story per week unless otherwise communicated. Attend weekly staff and editorial board meetings. Ensure Timely Publication: Assist in coordinating the publication schedule to ensure timely release of news content. Work with the production team to prepare articles for print and digital formats. Ensure adherence to deadlines and manage last-minute changes or updates.
Required Qualifications
