Job Description for: Designer

Purpose of Job:

This position reports to the Design Supervisor and Design Manager and is responsible for designing dies, gages, weld jigs & fixtures, count fixtures & poka-yoke's.

Minimum level of education / training required/certificates/licenses:

This position requires a General Educational Diploma (GED) or High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma. Vocational and/or technical training in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Technology is a plus. Preferable software knowledge of VERO international software Inc. (VISI) and CADMAX.

Minimum experience required:

Computer skills for Computer Aided Design(CAD), Good communication skills & ability to read & understand part prints. Must have a general knowledge of stamping dies & accessories.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Successfully operates CAD systems, printers, copiers & related equipment.

2. Resourcefully navigates in Plexus.

3. Take part print and draw accurately on CAD in both English & Metric.

4. Correctly calculates forms for developing a blank & strip layout on progressive dies.

5. Correctly calculates blanks, draws & reductions on draw dies.

6. Develop strip layout for progressive dies.

7. Develop rack of parts for transfer dies.

8. Efficiently design & detail in 3D/2D.

9. Design & detail compound, progressive & transfer dies.

10. Design & detail transfer for transfer dies.

11. Design & detail gages, weld jigs & fixtures, count fixtures & poka-yoke's.

12. Design & detail special machinery & die stamping related items.

13. Keep accurate & updated records on work being performed.

14. Full understanding of Batesville Tool & Die, Inc (BTD) Tooling Manual.

15. Full understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) & Statistical Process Control (SPC).

16. Professionally works with limited supervision.

17. Must be able to communicate clearly, be able to follow detailed directions & follow up on work assignments with other shifts & departments.

18. Must be able to work closely in cooperation with other team members to achieve departmental & company goals.

19. Must have good problem solving skills in order to complete tasks.

20. Must be an industrious individual that can handle multiple assignments.

21. Self Motivation is an important trait that is required in this job.

22. Accurately completes Bill of Materials (BOM).

23. Practical knowledge of the way BTD builds tools/gages.

24. Full understanding of all the CAD software's capability.

25. Effectively load & download data using .wkf, .igs, .x_t, .dwg, .dxf, .stl & etc

26. Simulation training may be required for some of the designers.

27. Effectively supports all Continuous Improvement (CI) Projects.

28. Basic understanding & compliance to BTD's Standards & Principles.

29. Read & understand part prints, die designs & detailed drawings.

30. Based on company needs a flexible work schedule and/or overtime is needed.

31. Accurately complete BTD's Tooling Changeover Form(F-23.2a) & place in Tooling Guide Folder(when applicable).

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not supervise others.

Requirements:

Needs to have 5 years of experience.
