Job Description:

Denim Coffee is in an exciting stage of growth. Our newly renovated headquarters has a state-of-the art new IMF roaster complete with silos and digital controls. The cupping lab has all the tools required for consistent cupping sessions and our flash-chill room is built for the expansion of our cold coffee product line.

We are a small, growing company, so the job description is varied. We’re looking for someone who cares deeply about coffee – enough to really focus on the details. Roasting samples and cupping coffee weekly involves sensorial evaluation. Loading green coffee and bagging roasted coffee is fairly physical. Roasting coffee and fulfilling orders requires attention to detail.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversee and manage general roasting and production ops at our roastery

Assist and manage all staff related to production (currently 1 additional roaster assistant, additional team members as growth/sales warrant)

Assess current SOPs & systems and create new ones as needed

Quality control, weekly cuppings and evaluations

Keep track of green coffee inventory

Manage roasting and production supplies and inventories

Verify quality of received green beans and load green beans

Roasting on IMF 60

Clean and maintain roaster and roasting/production areas

Develop roast profiles

Sample roast green coffee (Ikawa)

Work with CEO for green coffee purchasing & coffee offerings

Release/order green coffee

Get information for new coffees from suppliers & manage coffee program for staff

Flash Chill Production

Experience:

Must have previous work experience in coffee

1+ years Barista/Coffee experience PREFERRED

1+ years Roasting PREFERRED

1+ years Cupping PREFERRED

Knowledge/Skills Required:

Attention to detail

Capable palate for cupping/tasting

Experience with Excel and ability to work well with general software/apps

Experience with Cropster would be helpful, but willing to train the right candidate

Problem solving

Open to improvement

Ability to lift 75 lbs, coffee roasting and production requires a lot of moving, packing, shipping coffee around the facility through the roasting/packing/shipping process

Work Environment:

Denim Coffee began in 2011 as a small side hustle and has grown to 6 cafes and headquarters, including a new roastery, cupping room/training facility, in-house bakery, and cold coffee production room. With immediate goals of 10 owned/operated cafes in 10 years, we are well on our way. Additionally, we seek to grow our wholesale coffee sales through other cafes using our coffee, retail bags in various retail outlets and larger contract roasting opportunities. With the new IMF 60 roaster installed in 2023, the company is built to grow. We have a small team, and in a lot of ways, still feel like a startup. Not everything is polished, but there are also good systems, structure in place to work from. We focus on quality but don’t ignore efficiency.
