The Ethics and Public Policy Center (EPPC) is Washington, D.C.’s premier institute dedicated to applying a true and full account of the human person to contemporary questions of politics, law, and culture, in pursuit of America’s civic and cultural renewal.

We seek a full-time, resident Development Assistant to support EPPC’s growing development program. The position requires working Mondays through Thursdays in EPPC’s office, located near Farragut Square; reports to Cynthia Searcy, EPPC’s Vice President of Development; and works alongside two remote development staff.

Founded in 1976, EPPC works with Americans at every level of society, advising both policymakers and religious leaders, engaging the courts and the education system, and informing parents and others who influence culture. Through the work of our three dozen scholars, we equip Americans who cherish our founding ideals and intellectual heritage to think through the most pressing ethical, political, and cultural questions of our time.

EPPC has more than doubled in size in the last four years. As the organization approaches its 50th anniversary, the Development Assistant will have the opportunity to help secure and build on EPPC’s recent growth and in this way contribute to the advancement of human dignity in major institutions of American civil society.

Responsibilities

Process incoming checks and donations, including scanning, emailing to relevant staff, filing, recording them in our CRM, notifying program directors of contributions as needed, and creating and sending acknowledgement letters

Receive and send donor correspondence, including handwritten thank-you notes, donor gifts, calendar invitations, and emails regarding returned mailings

Manage and track development data, including but not limited to donor contacts and donation records

Work with the Vice President of Development to maintain accurate and current data and appropriately segmented donor lists

Research potential major donors identified by the Vice President of Development

Support development campaigns by preparing mailing lists for EPPC’s quarterly journal and annual report

Manage end-of-year and summer email and physical mail campaigns by preparing mailing lists, creating and approving proofs, communicating with the printer, receiving invoices, coordinating launch dates, and setting up email series

Maintain a calendar of development activities and deadlines, including but not limited to house file mailings and solicitations, and deadlines for grant applications and reports

Create and maintain spreadsheets for quarterly development strategy meetings and take notes at these meetings

Assist with development event planning and staffing, particularly logistics before events and on-site during events

Provide other day-to-day development support as required

Qualifications

A strong understanding of and commitment to EPPC’s mission and its individual programs

Two years of experience in a professional environment with administrative duties; internships and work study may be considered experience

Proficiency in computer and database software including Microsoft Office, and adaptability in learning the attentive use of new software

The ability to advance, with consistent supervision and in a collegial manner, a substantial number of projects at one time

Superior organization and verbal and written expression, and facility with independent research

The ability and willingness to take initiative while fully cooperating with the Vice President of Development and the leadership of the organization

The ability to interact in a professional manner with EPPC scholars, staff, donors, and donors’ staff

Availability for limited travel (5%)

First-hand experience with the use of a CRM and the operations of an established non-profit fundraising program are not required, but will strengthen an application

Start date

The ideal start date for this position is July 28, 2025.

Evaluation

The Vice President of Development will review particular assignments regularly with the Development Assistant, but there will be overall evaluations at 3, 6, and 12 months after the start date, and thereafter every 12 months. The focus of evaluations will be whether the Development Assistant completes tasks thoughtfully, thoroughly, and on time, consistently takes initiative as described in accelerating progress toward EPPC’s revenue goals, and builds productive relationships with EPPC’s other staff and scholars.

Salary

The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $60,000, and within those limits salary will be commensurate with experience.
