Position Overview:
As a Junior IT Specialist, you will gain hands-on experience supporting our traditional IT infrastructure and emerging software automation initiatives. Working alongside experienced team members, you will assist with routine hardware and network support while learning the basics of software deployment, API integrations, and cloud-based automation. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals beginning their careers to build expertise across multiple IT domains while contributing to our mission of serving veterans.
Key Responsibilities:
● Serve as the first point of contact for routine IT issues related to workstations, servers, and network connectivity.
● Assist in deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting hardware (e.g., computers, servers, peripherals) and network devices (routers, switches, VPNs).
● Help monitor network performance and respond to alerts under supervision.
● Support basic configuration and maintenance tasks to ensure stable and secure connectivity.
● Learn and assist in deploying and maintaining simple software solutions, including API integration and automation processes.
● Gain exposure to CI/CD pipelines and basic cloud platform operations (such as Azure, AWS, or GCP).
● Document resolutions, configurations, and procedures to build a knowledge base for the team.
● Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and contribute ideas to improve IT systems and processes.
● Support enforcing security policies, including access control and data protection best practices.
Requirements
Required:
● A Bachelor’s (or Associate’s) degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience through internships or prior work experience.
● Demonstrated interest in IT support and software development/automation through coursework, projects, or previous internship experience.
● Familiarity with basic computer systems, common operating systems, and office productivity suites.
Preferred:
● Introductory knowledge of networking concepts and an eagerness to learn about cybersecurity fundamentals.
● Some exposure to cloud platforms and/or scripting in a major programming language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, or C).
● Excellent problem-solving skills, effective communication, and a proactive attitude in a team environment.
