Cathcart Rail, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, is a leading freight rail services and transportation company. We employ nearly 900 employees in more than 70 locations across 28 states and operate the largest railcar services network in the industry. Cathcart's Repair Facilities division encompasses 11 large freight and tank car repair facilities, and its Field and Rail Services division operates more than 70 railroad repair agent locations, two short line railroads, and a dozen contract switching and transloading sites, and provides railcar storage and track maintenance services.
We are currently seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the execution of a portfolio of strategic projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage the entire lifecycle and ensure the successful delivery of critical projects and programs across the enterprise
Work closely with senior leadership to align project initiatives with business goals and drive continuous improvement in project execution
Oversee, track and report on all projects within the portfolio, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope and within budget
Implement and maintain project management best practices, methodologies and tools
Monitor and report on project performance and risk factors
Provide comprehensive business analytics to accurately capture project scope and requirements
Develop and implement quality assurance strategies and frameworks to ensure project deliverables meet or exceed standards
Lead regular project portfolio reviews and ensure optimal resource capacity and allocation
Serve as the internal lead and primary point of contact for multi-disciplinary projects including management of scope, budget, schedule, and status meetings
Document and optimize the critical path for key projects
Lead change management activities across the organization to mitigate and manage enterprise risk
Serve as a change agent, teacher, and coach on continuous improvement and project management techniques and tools
Drive measurable cost savings, cost avoidance and process improvements through CI and project management
Plan, prioritize, direct and support each business line or functional area as they develop and execute their strategic improvement projects
Manage multiple, simultaneous projects of various scopes and complexity, including site launches and closures
Able to balance strategic oversight with tactical project support
Develop policies and standards that support operational and compliance goals to align with industry standards
Manage governance control exceptions and deficiencies on a project basis, and partner with Business Unit leadership on remediation
Develop and deploy project management, continuous improvement, Lean Six Sigma and 5S methodologies across the organization
Diagnose root cause problems and develop implementable solutions and project plans
Provide better quality outcomes through CI and project management while reducing costs, increasing ROI and improving workplace safety
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience
Deep expertise in project management, business analytics, quality assurance, agile methodologies and portfolio management
Demonstrated experience executing strategic projects and influencing key stakeholders
Experience in budget planning and financial management
Proficient in program and portfolio management methodologies (PMP, Agile, Lean Six Sigma)
Ability to prioritize multiple objectives and priorities with time-sensitive deadlines
Experience leading large change management initiatives
Experiencing developing, implementing and arching standard operating procedures
Proven ability to diagnose root cause problems, identify solutions, develop implementable projects, articulate ideas crisply and build consensus
Ability to facilitate and coach stakeholders
Ability to create and deliver executive level reports
Demonstrated knowledge of change management concepts
Demonstrated competence in problem solving, data analysis and project planning
Strategic thinker with strong communication skills
Capable of developing and delivering executive level program updates
Heavy industrial, transportation or manufacturing experience preferred
Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MicroSoft Project, SmartSheets and all basic tools of Continuous Improvement and LEAN Six Sigma
Occasional travel required to Cathcart facilities
