Our client, an Oil & Gas company, is seeking a Project Controls Analyst to support their plant in Cochrane, AB. This is a contract role to cover a maternity leave.
The Analyst, Project Controls is a key member of the Engineering Team and will report directly to the Manager, Engineering. This role is responsible for supporting project planning and execution through effective cost tracking, forecasting, and scheduling. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to ensure project performance is accurately monitored and reported from initiation to closeout.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Control & Project Controls
Provide project controls support for small to mid-sized capital and maintenance projects.
Assist in the creation of project documentation and funding memos, ensuring alignment with current budget and proper assignment of asset codes per accounting standards. Track and manage approval processes based on organizational governance.
Oversee cost flow processes, including managing invoice logs, processing purchase requisitions, change orders, and closing completed purchase orders in SAP or equivalent systems.
Track and report monthly cost accruals, actuals, and variances against forecasts.
Maintain and update project forecasts and associated documentation regularly.
Partner with accounting teams to ensure timely reporting of forecast vs. actual expenditures and budget performance.
Develop and maintain high-level (Level 0–1) project schedules and assist project teams in identifying and addressing scheduling challenges.
Lead the budgeting process for the site, compiling multi-year capital plans and uploading data into enterprise systems.
Generate and maintain monthly reporting dashboards using Excel and Power BI. Present data to stakeholders in advance of month-end reporting.
Support project closeout activities in alignment with internal procedures.
Provide project controls support during plant turnarounds, including budgeting, cost tracking, LEM (Labor, Equipment, and Material) management, and daily reporting.
Team Development & Collaboration
Mentor and coach team members and site personnel on cost control principles and best practices.
Support cross-functional project teams in addressing cost-related concerns and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
Build subject matter expertise in cost control, with the goal of becoming a key resource within the organization.
Promote collaboration across departments by sharing knowledge and improving understanding of project controls.
Take on stretch assignments to support professional growth and broader business needs.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a cost control or project controls role within an industrial, utilities, or energy environment.
Diploma or Certificate in Business Administration, Project Management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Power BI. Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams and manage multiple priorities effectively.
