Job Summary

The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for coordinating with carriers, brokers, and freight forwarders to ensure that all products are transported efficiently and cost-effectively. They must ensure compliance with company policies and government regulations, monitor budgets, and maintain accurate shipping documentation. The Shipping Supervisor must have strong leadership and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure. This position is located at the Earth City location. 1st shift.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises a team of employees in the shipping area.

Handles all parcel and LTL shipments, both domestic and international.

Acts as the main contact for shipping carriers and claims.

Monitor and oversee both shipping activities to make sure that everything that is shipped out is in perfect condition.

Responsible for posting weight and shipping charges as applies to each and every item to be shipped out.

Prints and distributes pick tickets daily.

Acts as the HAZMAT lead for shipping. Ensures shipments are sent in compliance with shipping standards and regulations. Keeps shipping employees Hazmat certified.

In charge of compiling a list of unfulfilled orders for future reference.

Direct the movement of shipments from shipping points to storage and/or work areas.

Inspect loading operations to make sure that they comply with shipping specifications.

Read shipping notices, invoices, orders, and other documents to determine priorities and shipping methods that are needed to meet schedules.

Notify maintenance unit or contact external service providers in the case of defects on materials for repairs.

Responsible for managing financial transactions related to shipping services.

Carry out regular inventory reconciliation of shipping materials.

Prepare incorrect items report to vendors through the appropriate medium.

Play a mediator’s role between shipping units and vendors in the case of discrepancies in shipments, and reconcile with the appropriate bodies.

Identify opportunities for enhancement and suggest ways of improvement to top management of the organization.

Participate in hiring and training of new personnel for the company’s shipping unit.

Support the simplification and standardization of processes in a bid to enhance effectiveness.

Assists with picking orders and keeping the lines moving as needed to ensure shipments move according to schedule.

Other duties as needed.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Great attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Strong drive for results.

Works well with other team members.

Basic computer skills, including ERP, TMS and WMS platforms.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Requires 2-year relevant work experience with a high school diploma or equivalent.

HAZMAT certification a plus.

Forklift/Reach truck operation experience a plus, but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Moderate to frequent exposure to shop environment; may be exposed to dust, odors, oils, fumes, chemicals, noise and moving parts. Work requires the use of PPE on the facility’s production floor. Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl and move about facility and/or customer’s facilities. Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds.
