Description:

RIOS is an international design collective. We are actively in pursuit of wonder within the design of the built environment. We believe design is an act of optimism through which invention and ideas change the world. We practice interconnected design across architecture, placemaking, and landscape architecture to define design as a continuum.

We follow a process that begins with attunement, where program and context shape strong conceptual thinking to establish a holistically informed big idea through which we develop form, confirm function, and define experience as the basis on which to explore ecology, material, and tectonic expression. We are known for our bold solutions that are inclusive of the wider context and are ever mindful that an interdisciplinary approach to design brings about inclusive, resilient, and original solutions that ensure diversity and resilience.

We have an immediate opening for an experienced Landscape Technical Director that will be responsible for the technical excellence and constructability of landscape architecture deliverables. This role requires strong leadership, deep technical knowledge of site systems, and a passion for elevating the design integrity of our built environments. You will serve as the go-to expert for all landscape construction documentation, specifications, code compliance, and consultant coordination across a diverse portfolio of projects.

All positions at RIOS are hybrid with three days in office.

The ideal candidate must possess the following skills:

Lead the development of technical documents, including CDs, planting plans, grading and drainage, hardscape details, and irrigation design.

Guide the landscape team in design development and documentation across all project phases.

Collaborate with architects, civil engineers, and other consultants to ensure cohesive site integration.

Oversee quality control, constructability reviews, and compliance with codes, standards, and sustainability guidelines.

Mentor junior and mid-level landscape designers and technical staff.

Participate in client meetings, consultant coordination, and contractor interfacing as needed during CA.

Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, materials, and construction methods relevant to landscape architecture.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture or a related field.

15+ years of professional experience in landscape architecture with a strong technical emphasis.

Licensure as a Registered Landscape Architect (RLA) preferred.

Deep expertise in construction documentation and detailing for public and private realm projects.

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, and BIM workflows.

Knowledge of local codes, ADA, zoning regulations, and environmental permitting.

Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
