JOB GOAL
The Assistant Principal (working with the Building Principal, professional and support staff) directs, supervises and plans in order to implement District policies, codes and programs. The Assistant Principal utilizes his/her experience and knowledge for the purpose of insuring an effective and efficient learning environment which meets the educational needs of each student and develops a positive school climate. This is a line position with reporting authority directly to the Building Principal.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains accurate attendance records, files reports for resolution of attendance problems.
Resolves student discipline problems in accordance with the School District policies and codes.
Establishes and maintains an open line of communication among students, parents, and staff in resolving problems.
Assists with the development of in-service programs for staff members.
Works with the building principal in observing and evaluating selected staff members.
Supervises activity programs, including assembly programs, intramurals and extra-curricular activities and interscholastic sports.
Oversees the day-to-day operation of the building and supervisory duties (class coverage, lunch supervision, study halls, bus duty, etc.)
Informs the principal, on an ongoing basis, of all-important happenings, problems and matters which occur. SECONDARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with the recruitment and recommendation of professional and support staff.
Assists the Building Principal in the scheduling process.
Oversees use of building by both internal and external groups.
Assumes the responsibility of the Building Principal in his/her absence.
Contributes to curriculum development and the improvement of instruction
Participates in building, District and parent meetings.
Assists with the coordination of custodial services for building.
Distributes and keeps accurate inventory of internal supplies and materials for faculty and staff use throughout the school term.
Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Building Principal or the District Superintendent.

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent of Schools in accordance with District guidelines.
