Location The role is hybrid with onsite requirement in Oakland.

Duration 7 month contract

Pay Range: $75.00/hour - $83.00/hour W2

The Information Technology (IT) organization designs, develops, operates and maintains the technology and telecommunications systems that enable the client to meet its commitment to providing safe, reliable and affordable service to customers.

IT partners with the business by increasing capabilities through the development of additional functionality, implementing new technologies, reducing costs, increasing productivity, and facilitating organizational and business effectiveness through enabling technologies.

Position Summary

The Project Controller is a critical member of the client's Propel Program's PMO team. Propel is a major business and technology modernization program to unlock customer value by simplifying the way we work together. Propel will migrate to the new version of SAP, S/4HANA, seizing this unique opportunity to standardize business processes, clean the technology core, and enable innovation for breakthrough change across Engineering, Operations, Finance, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and Information Technology. Scope of business processes include Design to Operate (DTO), Source to Pay (STP), Inventory to Deliver (ITD), Forecast to Plan (FTP), Record to Report (RTR) and Hire to Retire (HTR). Solutions include: SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC, SuccessFactors, Ariba, Fieldglass, EPPM, SAC, BOBJ/BW, BTP and hundreds of non-SAP applications.

The project controller is responsible for monitoring and managing the financial aspects of a project, ensuring it stays within budget by tracking expenses, forecasting costs, and collaborating with project managers to identify and address potential issues, ultimately aiming to deliver projects on time and within budget through meticulous financial reporting and analysis.

Key responsibilities of a project controller:

• Budgeting and Cost Control: Create and manage project budgets, track expenditures against the capital and expense budgets, identify and explain cost variances, and implement corrective actions.

• Financial Forecasting: Analyze project progress to predict future costs and generate financial forecasts for stakeholders. Prepare revised budgets when schedule slippage or scope changes occur.

• Performance Reporting: Work with Team leaders to track and prepare detailed project reports on cost performance, schedule adherence, and key metrics to monitor project health.

• Schedule Management: Collaborate with project managers to monitor project timelines and identify potential schedule delays.

• Change Order Management: Review and manage change orders to ensure accurate cost adjustments and project scope updates. Understand contracts, rate sheets*** and payment milestones.

• Risk Management: Identify potential financial risks associated with a project, develop mitigation strategies, and monitor their effectiveness.

• Data Analysis: Utilize project management software to analyze data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to project teams.

• Communication: Effectively communicate project financial status and key findings to stakeholders, including project managers, senior management, and clients.

Required skills:

• Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of financial principles, budgeting, and cost analysis.

• Project Management Knowledge: Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools, including phases, deliverable types, and labor demands.

• Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret data, identify trends, and draw meaningful conclusions.

• Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication to effectively convey complex financial information.

• Software Proficiency: Expertise in Excel, Procurement / Contract management software, ERP Finance systems, project management software for financial entries, reporting, schedule analysis, and variance analysis.

• Leadership Skills: Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence decision-making.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.

Work Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in Financial or Accounting role - large Software programs and/or Project experience a plus.

• 2+ years of Project Controller experience

Proficiency/Required Skills:

• Advanced Excel - such as producing graphs, look-ups, pivot tables, formula development.

• SAP Financial transaction posting and reporting, Ariba contracting

• MS-Office suite: Specially creating compelling PowerPoint and Word documents.

• Works effectively with personnel at all levels

• Communications - Ability to form and lobby for options, disagree constructively. Effective in One on One, Small groups, and Large groups a plus.
