We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, strengths-focused and tech savvy Learning Specialist to join our team. This role is critical in ensuring that all students-particularly those with diverse learning needs, diagnosed learning differences, or requiring targeted academic interventions-have access to an inclusive, engaging, and personalized online learning experience. Using a strengths-focused approach, the Learning Specialist will collaborate virtually with students, families, teachers, counselors, and school leaders to develop and implement support plans, deliver direct instruction, and promote student growth and independence in a flexible, student-centered K-12 online environment.
This is a remote position, with the occasional need to travel to Washington, D.C. to engage directly with colleagues and foster strong professional relationships. Occasional travel domestically or abroad may also be required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assessment & Identification
Review evaluations and records to understand learning profiles.
Conduct virtual observations and informal assessments.
Join SST and MTSS meetings. Plan Development & Implementation
Create and manage virtual support plans.
Partner with educators to implement accommodations.
Recommend assistive technologies. Direct Support
Deliver targeted one-on-one and small-group virtual support.
Build student skills in organization, academics, and self-advocacy. Collaboration & Communication
Maintain communication with families and staff.
Collaborate with teachers and leaders to support student success.
Attend virtual meetings and conferences. Training & Resources
Coach teachers on inclusive practices.
Provide families with home learning strategies. Documentation & Compliance
Maintain student records and document progress.
Ensure compliance with internal and legal standards. Professional Growth
Stay current on best practices in virtual learning support. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
Master's (or Doctoral) degree in Special Education, Educational Psychology, Learning Support, or related field.
Valid teaching license or certification in Special Education (state flexible).
At least 2-3 years of experience working with K-12 students in a learning specialist or special education capacity.
Strong understanding of IDEA, Section 504, MTSS, and special education processes.
Proficiency with educational technology, virtual instruction platforms, and Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas, Brightspace, Schoology).
Experience interpreting psychoeducational evaluations and tailoring instruction accordingly.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a remote context. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a virtual K-12 school setting.
Training or certification in Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or executive function coaching.
Familiarity with assistive technology software (e.g., Read&Write, Snap&Read, Voice Dream).
Experience providing training or coaching to educators.
