We are looking for an Environmental Project Specialist at either a senior or principal level out of the Columbus, Ohio area, Central Indiana or Northeast Indiana areas.
Job Description
What you’ll do:
With an ability to work independently, the Environmental Project Specialist is responsible for providing ecological and cultural project permitting and field support for company facilities, including electric transmission and distribution facilities, substations, and other business operations.
Responsibilities include:
Provide guidance and other necessary support to business unit leadership and staff on applicable environmental project requirements
Identify permit needs and costs, securing contractor support for necessary studies and consultation with local, state, and federal agencies, and coordinating with project management, construction management, engineering, and contractors to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
Perform environmental compliance and support activities for projects in the assigned region such as planning, scoping, coordinating due diligence with environmental agencies, and preparation of permit applications and technical reports.
Interpret regulations and procedures required by external agencies and assist in developing comment packages on draft permits and regulations.
Attend routine project site meetings throughout project lifecycle and assist team in managing budget and schedule for compliance activities.
Provide guidance and training to environmental technician team members and contracted stormwater inspectors during construction.
Provide support during agency site visits, internal project audits, and initiate corrective action when project objectives are not being met.
Promote and enforce (see something, say something, do something) safe work practices to safeguard employees, contractors, the general public, and Company facilities.
Develop and maintain all environmental documents and records in accordance with environmental content management standards.
*Travel time ranges from 30-60% and will include overnight stays on occasion.
*Additional responsibilities are required for a Principal Level role.
What we’re looking for in a successful candidate:
The Environmental Project Specialist Senior/Principal should have a proficient/advanced understanding of the following environmental programs:
• NPDES Stormwater Construction General Permit
• Clean Water Act Section 404/401 Permitting,
• National Environmental Policy Act,
• National Historic Preservation Act, and
• Endangered Species Act.
Key competencies of this position are technical expertise, planning and organization ability, problem solving, written and oral communication skills, and initiative.
Minimum Requirements:
SG 07 Environmental Project Specialist Sr. (Average starting salaries $85,081-$106,354):
Education requirements:
Bachelor's degree in an environmental, science, or related discipline.
Experience:
6 years of experience required.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid driver’s license
SG 08 Environmental Project Specialist Principal (Average starting salaries $96,110-$124,941):
Education requirements:
Bachelor's degree in an environmental, science, or related discipline.
Experience:
10 years of experience required.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid driver’s license
