The Lead Capacity Management Specialist (CMS) is responsible for throughput operations within The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center University Hospital in partnership with nursing and physician leadership, staff nurses, multidisciplinary stakeholders and administrative leadership of the hospital. The CMS is responsible for enforcing hospital policies and initiatives in collaboration with Nursing leaders, physician leaders and administrators. They are responsible to ensure that barriers and escalations to patient throughput are addressed efficiently. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is committed to enhancing the quality of care our patients receive.
Additional Information:
Provide real-time and predictive patient throughput support within OSUWMC through collaboration with the Patient Flow Management Supervisors, Case Managers, Physicians, Unit Nursing Leaders and Ancillary Departments. Determine patients that meet discharge suite criteria and have actionable discharge barriers - (Lab-MD-Imaging-etc.). Expedite placement of external transfers with necessary stakeholders. The position performs daily targeted rounding to assist in alleviating barriers for patient discharges, in addition to reviewing and escalating any barriers to patient discharge. The Capacity Management Specialist assists in the building and utilization of necessary dashboards (IHIS OSU Capacity Management Dashboard and IHIS ED Track Board, etc.) to escalate any delayed or expired expected discharge dates, Continual monitoring of ICU/PCU and MedEx Boarders, and Transport pending requests: Delayed identified patients pending. Expected outcome: improved patient flow metrics, access and bed turnaround time.
The Capacity Management Specialist- Lead directs the department staff, medical personnel and other team members to achieve optimal patient throughput. This role oversees the business unit efforts in managing Admissions, Transfers, and Discharges (ADT) for internal and external customers. Organizational Expectations. Adheres to OSUMC and James policies and procedures, including the organization’s compliance program. Utilizes the principles of Relationship-Based Care to guide professional practice. Embraces the mission, vision, values and nursing standards of practice of the organization as demonstrated through positive patient/guest relations, positive and effective interactions with staff, and formulating and achieving goals consistent with Key Results Areas.
