The Mershon Center is seeking a Research Senior Technician to join their team. This is a temporary position lasting through August 2025 and is part-time at approximately 20 hours per week.
Under the supervision of the Mershon Center Hayes Chair in National Security Studies, the Research Senior Technician will be responsible for conducting historical research utilizing books, databases, microfilm, and archives for several book-length projects on early Cold War, global anti-imperialism, transnational approaches to Woodrow Wilson and the legacy of Theodore Roosevelt, normalization, ideology and US foreign relations, grand strategy, and biography. Other research will include related academic and public articles. Research will largely revolve around developing historical research reports on assigned topics for book projects and articles drawing from synthesis of scholarship as well as deep dives into many types of primary sources and editing.
The Research Senior Technician will also do diligent fact checking, citations, bibliographic work, revisions and editorial assistance on publications of the Mershon Center Hayes Chair in National Security Studies. Other duties will include assistance with (and opportunities to learn about and engage in) public-facing work from op-eds to interviews, from webinars to in-person events and conferences, to collaborations with the Time Magazine and activity related to Hayes Chair’s remote web series and public efforts such as “Historians and the News,” author interviews, collaborations with think tanks, historical societies, and museums.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field including History, International Relations, International Studies, or similar.
Additional Education Desired
Focus on human conflict, peace, and diplomacy and/or modern U.S. history.
Preference will be given to candidates who have a focus in human conflict, peace, and diplomacy and/or modern U.S. history.
Graduate level degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
Required Qualifications
Required qualifications include three years of extensive history related academic research experience. Demonstrated editing, writing, and bibliographical skills.
