The Department of Molecular Genetics seeks a temporary Research Technician in zebrafish molecular genetics and husbandry. This position is available on Ohio State's west campus.

Duties include performing zebrafish natural mating's, collecting and staging zebrafish embryos, PCR genotyping zebrafish adults and embryos, RNA in situ hybridization, and brightfield microscopy and imaging. Additional laboratory and husbandry duties include preparing common laboratory solutions and reagents, monitoring and ordering supplies, monitoring and scheduling pick-up of biohazardous and chemical waste, washing and autoclaving of lab and fish dishware, monitoring and logging environmental and equipment data, performing fish facility water quality tests, and covering feeding shifts when staff are unavailable.

This position is part-time with 4 to 6-hour blocks between 9AM to 5PM at least 3 days per week, Monday through Friday. This position will last from mid-May 2025 through July 2025.

Minimum Education Required: Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience by the position start date and at least 12 months of relevant experience.

Desired Qualifications: Experience in zebrafish fin dissection, zebrafish mating cross set up and embryo collection, sorting and staging of zebrafish embryos for phenotypic analyses, DNA preparation from zebrafish adult fin and embryos, PCR genotyping, including dCAPS PCR and restriction digestion-based protocols, in situ hybridization of properly staged and fixed embryos, and brightfield microscopy, zebrafish embryo imaging, and image analyses

The pay range for this job profile is $15.70 - $20.67 per hour. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
