SummaryOrganization's Summary Statement:
The Business Manager is responsible for overseeing the administrative and financial activities of the Department of Art History & Archaeology. Key responsibilities include managing, tracking, analyzing, and reporting the annual budget; processing payroll transactions; purchasing and monitoring department expenditures; and supervising and mentoring departmental staff. The Business Manager reports directly to the Department Chair and works closely with college-level administrative officers.
Physical Demands: Typical office environment. Occasionally requires walking to different campus locations for meetings.
Preferences:
Master's degree in a related field preferred
Experience in higher education
Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Workplace, Workday, Adaptive, and Priority strongly preferred
Experience with sponsored research accounting and administration
Knowledge of the University of Maryland's financial, personnel, budgeting, and reporting systems
Minimum QualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Three (3) years of professional human resources, payroll, finance, accounting, procurement, or travel coordination experience. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable human resources related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
