The Principal Engineer develops and leads materials and processing simulation research and development efforts for the Simulation Innovation and Modeling Center (SIMCenter), coordinates and conducts various sponsored research and industry projects; collaborates with research and industry partners to ensure projects are completed in accordance with project milestones, deliverable requirements and within the cost and schedule agreed upon during project scoping; works with OSU faculty and other OSU center (SIMCenter, CDME, CEMAS) staff to coordinate multidisciplinary fundamental and applied research; utilizes expertise and leadership in determining technical solutions for complex problems; serves as a liaison with sponsoring agencies and other research and educational institutes; prepares technical reports for submission to sponsoring agencies; participates in preparation of research and industry proposals; writes journal and conference articles; presents research progress to sponsors and presents research results at conferences and symposia; establishes priorities and supervises student employees (e.g. provides developmental opportunities, coaches to foster development, evaluates performance); supports professional development and student program activities of SIMCenter in area of expertise; responsible for bringing in sufficient funding to support position and any direct reports; performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

This position will require access to export controlled data and work in an export controlled facility. Eligibility for this position is restricted to “U.S. persons” as defined in U.S. export control regulations. “U.S. persons” include: (1) U.S. citizens or nationals; (2) permanent residents; (3) asylees or refugees; or (4) individuals otherwise described as “protected individuals” pursuant to Title 8 U.S. Code Section 1324b(a)(3)(b).

Required:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

Major: Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Systems Engineering, Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering

Experience:

Required:

6 years experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; experience and/or training in materials and manufacturing processes, simulation and experimentation, and technical writing; extensive experience in a professional multi-disciplinary research environment with experience proposal writing and customer engagement; considerable experience in a R & D setting (i.e., planning and conducting R & D projects/programs in terms of technical and managerial functions)

Desired:

Proven experience building and working with multi-disciplinary research teams in a highlyspecialized research area within the areas of materials science, materials processing, manufacturing, simulation, digital twinning, and/or education. Experience in a supervisory capacity over direct reports or processes
