Post Doctoral Scholar

We are seeking a Post Doctoral Scholar to join the School of Earth Sciences at The Ohio State University studying mathematical geodesy. The Post Doctoral Scholar will embark on a program of independent research with the primary goal of improving the algorithm codes used to characterize the Earth’s gravitational field. Duties will include specialized scientific/numerical analysis; contributing to (or leading) technical reports or manuscripts prepared for submission to peer-reviewed journals; and mentoring graduate students.

Qualifications:

PhD in mathematics or a closely related field such as mathematical physics, by the time of hire is required, along with a strong background in complex analysis of several variables, elliptic PDEs, and asymptotic analysis. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. A collaborative mentality towards research and mentoring.

Desired skills and techniques include experience in parallel computation and advanced numerical programming, using Mathematica and Python with an interest in GPU programming. These required and desired skills should be demonstrated by presenting an existing body of code and/or peer-reviewed publications.
