The Job You Will Perform:
0.1 Press operators set up, run, and clean up the printing converting equipment.
0.2 Press operators report to the converting shift supervisor for the shift to which they are assigned.
1.0 Primary press operator duties / responsibilities include:
1.1 - following all safety rules and practices;
1.2 - assure product quality and specifications as denoted in SPI’s or customer requirements
1.3 - learning customer requirements and specifications by reading factory work orders, print cards, and design specifications;
1.4 - directing the activities of other machine crew members to efficiently set up and run orders;
1.5 - maintaining quality and production standards as required by the company;
1.6 - performing reporting functions; including entering data into plant and/or equipment computers, and filling out quality certificates, checklists, and/or other required paperwork;
1.7 - setting and adjusting the prefeeder and feed sections of the machine;
1.8 - working with printing inks; including installing inks, checking and maintaining proper pH and viscosity levels, verifying colors against standards, removing inks, and washing print stations;
1.9 - working with printing plates and pull straps; including obtaining and installing plates, removing and asiding plates, washing plates during runs, and washing plates at the ends of runs and shifts;
1.10 - setting and adjusting the slotting, scoring, and/or die cutting sections of the machine;
1.11 - adjusting impression and register (both through and across machine) settings on all stations;
1.12 - setting and adjusting the folding section of the machine;
1.13 - setting and adjusting the glue application system;
1.14 - performing minor cutting die repairs;
1.15 - continually monitoring the quality and quantity of production;
1.16 - solving quality and production problems;
1.17 - informing the supervisor of safety items and maintenance needs;
1.18 - maintaining teamwork within the machine crew and with all other associates;
1.19 - following prescribed practices in all circumstances;
1.20 - performing other duties as assigned by supervision.
2.0 The qualifications for press operators are the ability to perform the duties / responsibilities of the job with or without accommodation; the ability to read, write, and speak English; the ability to accurately read a measuring tape and ruler; the ability to use basic shop math; the ability to learn; the ability to lead a machine crew; the ability to perform any function of any machine crew member; required process and product knowledge to identify defective products (and/or machine conditions) and take appropriate actions; and the ability to follow instructions, ask questions, and work effectively as a member of a team.
