Summary and relationship to the curriculum: This position supports treatment for minor student injuries, administers medication and assists with preventative, therapeutic and rehabilitation treatments. Treatment includes care during the school day, games/practices, and development treatment and rehabilitation for student athletes according to physicians' instructions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides on-site medical treatment for minor injuries and rehabilitation for students and communicates with parents, district employees, and physicians regarding treatment or rehabilitation for injuries.

Evaluates and diagnoses athletic injuries (any injury sustained by a person as a result of such person's participation in exercises, sports, games, or recreational activities, or any activities requiring physical strength, agility, flexibility, range of motion, speed, or stamina without respect to where or how the injury occurs) for students within the allowed scope of an athletic trainer (a person with specific qualifications, as set forth in Code Sections 43-5-7 and 43-5-8 who, upon the advice and consent of a physician, carries out the practice of prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, disposition, treatment, or rehabilitation of athletic injuries; and, in carrying out these functions, the athletic trainer is authorized to use physical modalities, such as heat, light, sound, cold, electricity, or mechanical devices related to prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, disposition, rehabilitation, and treatment).

Manages documentation and records related to student athletes and athletic injuries.

Recommends medical treatment for student athletes, including determining the appropriate time for an injured athlete to return to play.

Coordinates emergency care and transportation of student athletes to a medical facility, as needed.

Assists in the coordination of the athletic training budget, inventory and maintenance of training room equipment.

Participates in pre-participation sports physicals.

Responds to emergency situations and effectively communicates the observed conditions or situation to school and emergency medical personnel, as needed.

Adheres to the medication guidelines and assists students in taking daily medication, as needed.

Builds positive relationships and utilizes district resources to promote the social and emotional growth of students.

Provides a well-managed, safe, and orderly environment that is conducive to learning.

Carries out duties in accordance with federal and state laws, Code of Ethics for Georgia Educators, and established state and local school board policies, regulations, and practices.

Attends and participates in meetings and leads assigned meetings and activities as requested.

Works with Human Resources personnel to establish proactive safety procedures for all district employees.

Performs any other duties as requested.

In addition to the assigned duties, one of the assistant athletic trainers will be assigned to serve as the Lead Athletic Trainer for the district with the additional duties to:

Provide supervision, guidance, and training for athletic trainers.

Collaborate with district level leaders to ensure a successful athletic training program.

Assist in the implementation of athletic training related procedures.

Assist in the compliance of any data needed for reports, records or other required documentation.

Education and/or Experience: Must have at least a Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in Athletic Training or related field.

Certificate or License Required: Georgia Athletic Training license by Georgia Board of Athletic Trainers required. National Athletic Trainers' Association certification preferred.

Language Skills: Must have ability to apply teaching and learning principles to support the understanding of learning and behavior, ability to relay technical information to others in understandable terms, and ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Must have the ability to write professional correspondences and reports. Must have the ability to effectively present and articulate information in one-to-one and group situations to students, parents, school personnel and community agencies.

Mathematical Skills: Must have knowledge and understanding of general statistical procedures. Must have ability to collect and analyze assessment data, predict outcomes, formulate strategies for the a desired result, and report/present findings in print and chart/graph form.

Reasoning Ability: Must be able to facilitate problem solving processes and use deductive reasoning. Must have the ability to synthesize workable options from given facts, and assist in the development of workable solutions. Must effectively organize, plan and prioritize work.

Technical Ability: Must have considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office and other job related technologies.

Customer Service Skills: Must be capable of interacting and communicating effectively with district employees, stakeholders, community members, and the general public using tactful and helpful customer service.

Professional Requirements: Must serve as a role model. Desirable personal characteristics are required. Appropriate dress and grooming consistent with established standards required.
