The Gas and Water Systems Operator 1 is an entry level job to monitor and control the operation of the entire gas/water system: transmission, purification, distribution, etc. by use of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA); responsible for maximizing system efficiency and minimizing service interruptions; coordinate departmental work with appropriate departments,

contractors, customers and other external entities in accordance with federal, state and local standards, rules, regulations, contractors, operating codes and procedures. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Analyze information from Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA), commercial/industrial customers and field personnel to determine crew management of Division/contracted crews for service restoration which entails determining number/types of crews needed, prioritizing work schedules, and related activities. Coordinate departmental work with other Division areas/departments, contractors and other external agencies/entities which include: monitor approaching severe weather and take a proactive action to respond; emergency troubleshooting procedures, repairs and new construction place in service.

Receive/route and dispatch repair orders, maintenance tickets and instructions to operation and distribution personnel; responsible for issuance of order/directives in a manner to ensure safety of Division personnel and to meet the needs of customers; and identify and maintain record of all abnormal situations on the gas/water systems. Identify and assess abnormal/emergency situations and take appropriate corrective actions. Maintain a thorough knowledge and/or current status of system conditions in the gas/water system, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA), MLGW Gas and Water Operating Codes, standard compliance, Texas Gas Transmission (TGT) contract, Department of Transportation (DOT), and State of Tennessee Department of Public Health rules, regulations, standard compliance, operating codes and procedures. Enter data into various computer systems; prepare/maintain system logs, maintenance tickets and various reports. Receive and handle telephone and radio communications; provide information to Division personnel, customers and other external agencies/entities concerning system status. Perform other duties as directed.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Must have a valid driver's license from state of residence.

EDUCATION

Associate degree in Engineering Technology or related field.

EXPERIENCE

Must have 4 years of experience in craft/technical field related to engineering, construction, maintenance, transmission or operation in the control of gas and/or water utilities. Must have entry level ability to operate the gas and water systems in full compliance with applicable MLGW, federal, state and local standards, processes and procedures.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Must successfully complete NIMS Training within one year of entering job. Must have successfully completed Aptitude Test, and Color Blind Test 2. Must have basic knowledge of gas and/or water systems. Works in office under good conditions. Physical Demands: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment. The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
