The only thing our science teacher will love more than science is inspiring kids to love science! Why are polar bears white? Why do frogs say "ribbit"? How are vaccines made? Why do dogs wag their tails? Can animals laugh? If questions like these from young scholars excite you and you're already mentally connecting these concepts to amazing science lessons, then you may be the teacher we're looking for! As a BA science teacher, your top priority will be to ensure that our scholars are doing science, and not just learning about it.
BA operates on a year-round academic calendar. We will have grades K through 9th in July and will continue to add a grade each subsequent year until we are K–12 in 2028. Class sizes range from 12 to 24 scholars per class.
At Butler Academy, or BA for short, we're committed to building something extraordinary, and we won't settle for anything less than the most talented, innovative, passionate, and committed educators we can find. Our goal is to find teachers who are committed to closing the achievement gap by making BA a dynamic learning environment where every child is genuinely embraced and uplifted.
As part of your commitment, we ask that you:
Develop well-rounded scientists and engineers through hands-on creative lessons
Expose our scholars to various branches of science and engineering
Differentiate instruction for scholars based on their educational needs, abilities, grade level and interests
Acquire appropriate teaching materials and resources
Create an engaging scholar-centered environment, utilizing teaching techniques from our "Responsive Classroom" training
Motivate scholars and encourage progress
Embody Butler Academy's mission, vision, and core values
Participate in all community building activities, including Morning Huddle and Friday Celebration
What you'll need:
Bachelor's degree (conferred by July 1)
SC Teacher certification (or transferrable certification from another state)
A strong belief that all scholars can succeed; regardless of their race, class, or gender
An ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
A commitment to constant professional growth and development
Preference: experience and demonstrated success working with underserved scholars
As part of your application, please provide a cover letter that gives insight to your expertise and why you are the perfect match for BA!
