Position Summary
The Safety Director is responsible for the development, training and implementation of all Federal, State, Local, Manufacturer and Corporate safety policies, practices and procedures. The Safety Director will lead the field safety team and provide oversight of all of Mr. Crane’s field safety operations, including management of staff, employee and customer safety, process and operational safety, DOT, OSHA, workplace violence and other government programs, environmental and quality management systems. This position will play a critical role in understanding how we manage and continuously improve our Environmental Health Safety & Quality (EHS&Q) programs. This position will work with Executive and Operations leadership to manage a set of proactive processes, systems, tools and training that will optimize EHS&Q programs, business performance and ensure regulatory compliance. This position will have oversight of Safety Representatives as well have a dotted line report from the HR & Safety Specialist.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Safety Program Development:
Provide the leadership required to create and implement processes resulting in a positive and proactive Safety Culture throughout the organization.
Provide strategic Safety directives to our entire labor force—Union and Non-Union, Executives and Non-Executives.
Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and programs in line with industry standards and regulations, including development of AHA, THA, Critical Lift, Spill Prevention, Environmental, and Site Audit Plans.
Conduct regular safety audits and assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions at job sites and company facilities.
Provide solutions to complex safety, health, security & compliance issues.
Actively participate in industry organization safety workshops and committees.
Develop and foster a safety culture by promoting awareness, accountability, and continuous improvement across the entire company, including proper use of PPE for all employees, vendors and/or customers.
Engage employees in safety initiatives and encourage reporting of safety concerns.
Review and Assist in the Safety Section on all Customer Contract Packages to include providing the necessary safety documents required on the job site.
Develop and maintain a workplace violence prevention plan in full compliance with OSHA.
Training and Education:
Develop a safety training schedule and curriculum for employees, and customers.
Coordinate and conduct safety training programs for employees, emphasizing proper crane and rigging safety practices.
Ensure all employees are aware of and adhere to safety guidelines.
Prepare a monthly Safety Recap to be provided to the Advisory Board.
Facilitate development and distribution of the weekly safety meeting topic
Prepare/deliver/facilitate quarterly safety meetings
Regulatory Compliance:
Stay informed about relevant safety regulations and standards.
Ensure the company's compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations both at job sites and company facilities.
As requested, prepare, and deliver professional status & forecast reports to customers, employees & our advisory board.
Conduct studies and investigations to ensure compliance with Local, State and Federal Safety and Health Laws, including industrial hygiene. Establish a rapport with local fire and environmental agencies along with a strong relationship with your peer group within our industry.
Work closely with CEO to Maintain OSHA 300 Log for the Company and its affiliates.
Design, implement and administer the Company’s health, safety and environmental program and procedures including but not limited to the Safety Management Program
Maintain compliant status in Supplier Quality Management platforms such as ISNetworld, Avetta and Highwire
Manage and maintain programs, logs and files for the storage, classification, and identification (MSDS/SDS) of hazardous chemicals, liquids and solids stored at facilities and job sites.
In cooperation the Fleet Manager, support and maintain the HazMat Business Plan (HMBP), CERS reporting and local jurisdiction hazardous material permits
Assist Operations and Fleet Safety with administration of the telematics program
Oversee & approve procedures for handling, documenting & recording crane & rigging inspections.
Maintain safety and security programs for shop equipment including but not limited to shackles, slings, spreader bars, FAA lights and guards.
Ensure compliance with special regulatory instructions for DoD installations e.g.NavFac P-307.
Oversee the Driver Safety Program including training and regulatory records compliance for DOT drivers.
Oversee the substance abuse testing program and compliance requirements.
Incident Investigation:
Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, or near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions and maintain detailed records of safety incidents and corrective measures taken.
Interface with insurance, legal, finance and client representatives to manage claims resolution or regulatory action
Emergency Response Planning:
Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures.
Conduct drills to ensure preparedness for various emergency scenarios.
Manage all incurred injuries to a successful conclusion.
Maintain protocol for claims management, clinics, Return to Duty and Long-Term Disability.
Provide timely 0-60 notifications to Executive Team for all incidents regardless of the severity of the incident.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, other safety-related field or ten years of experience in safety or safety-related field.
CHST Certification preferred.
Ten years of experience in safety-related field with five years of experience in construction or heavy equipment operations.
Five years of experience in a leadership position.
Experience as a training coordinator, facilitator or similar role preferred.

The employee is sometimes required to: stoop, kneel, bend or crouch.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds or use small tools. The employee must be able to wear fall protection as needed and perform work at elevations above six feet. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs. Must be willing to travel and spend multiple nights away from home as needed or determined by management.
