Smith Engineering is seeking a Senior Energy Engineer to work at our customer sites in the New York Metro area and in our Manhattan office.
This role reports to Smith Engineering’s Energy Group Manager, and is responsible for the following:
To lead and manage energy engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
Your role is to evaluate, and develop energy options that will reduce costs, reduce carbon, and/or improve efficiency for complex commercial and institutional facilities. You will be expected to be as comfortable in a plant environment with a Chief Engineer as well as presenting to a team of engineers, building managers, and senior management your observations.
Perform field surveys and collect data as required for the preparation of equipment tables, field observations, energy calculations, and building control sequences.
Evaluation, analysis, inspection, field testing, and troubleshooting, including but not limited to LL87 retro-commissioning, chiller testing, pump testing, pressure testing, flow testing, etc.
Perform ASHRAE Level 1, 2, and 3 Energy Audits including energy savings calculations utilizing Microsoft Excel, Trane Trace 700, IESVE, or eQUEST modeling software. Experience in IES is preferred.
Maintain current knowledge of advances in new and alternative energy options, especially related to operations and design, changes related to ASHRAE Standards, Certification Programs, and NYC/NYS Energy Code
Perform feasibility, energy savings, carbon reduction, and cost-benefit financial analyses for potential ECMs.
Analyze utility bills to extract rate structures and marginal rates, identifying building energy consumption and potential opportunities for reduction.
Work with vendors and contractors to obtain pricing on potential ECMs.
Develop and present findings in a professional manner to internal senior staff and customers which may include financial decision committees.
Develop and/or commission energy management routines for automation systems throughout facilities.Qualifications
10+ Cumulative project experience under the supervision of a properly licensed Professional Engineer.
5-7 years of experience in the building energy efficiency (or related field)
5+ years of performing energy audits and Retro-Cx projects
Experience in energy conservation measure development, saving and incentive calculations.
Experience required with eQuest, IESVE or Trane Trace 700
Located within 50 miles of New York City.
