Delta Dental Plan of Michigan, Inc. seeks a full-time Senior Database Administrator based in Farmington Hills, MI. The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for the installation, patching, performance, security, and capacity management of database management systems for the enterprise. This position acts as a subject matter expert for one or more database management systems providing guidance on best practices and operational support of those platforms. Specific duties include: 1) Monitor the day-to-day activities of production and non-production database systems to ensure smooth operation of all environments. This includes space administration within the database and at the operating system level to ensure the database systems perform properly and without disruption. 2) Create and respond to automated alerts that ensure the integrity and stability of database systems. 3) Create and maintain multiple database systems and document operating standards and procedures in support of those systems. 4) Develop and maintain work instructions in support of enterprise database systems to ensure that the entire database administration team has been sufficiently trained on the operation and creation of the database systems that we support. 5) Develop processes and procedures to monitor the performance and integrity of database systems. These processes and procedures include backup and recovery, automation of typically manual activities as well as the health and general operational readiness of the systems. 6) Evaluate, recommend, and oversee implementation of new database-related technologies and ensure their smooth integration into the enterprise’s technology landscape. 7) Ensure the development and maintenance of business recovery and disaster recovery processes. 8) Provide technical assistance and support to both internal and external users of the corporation’s databases. Position is a hybrid position with an in-office requirement. Worker must live within a commutable distance of Farmington Hills, MI and be able to work in-office as required.

Minimum Requirements:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and five (5) years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience as a Database Administrator with one of the following database management systems: Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB. Must also have five (5) years of experience (which may have been gained concurrently) with each of the following: 1) scripting languages such as BASH, KSH, PowerShell, Python or Perl; 2) developing automated processes in support of routine database maintenance activities in a Microsoft Windows Server or Unix operating system environment; 3) performance tuning of database systems supporting both OLTP and Data Warehouse environments; 4) utilizing backup and recovery software products and concepts; 5) delivering high availability solutions for database systems; 6) frequent use of PowerShell for automation tasks; 7) monitoring Health checks of SQL servers using SQL error logs, windows event logs, trace logs & using historical data from third party monitoring tools like SQL Sentry/Nagios/Spotlight; 8) investigating on new CVEs identified for SQL server in NVD portal and documenting the steps to plan for Remediation; 9) performing Database Refreshes from Production to Test & Development environments. All experience may have been gained concurrently. Experience must have been acquired after completion of the Bachelor’s Degree program. Position is a hybrid position with an in-office requirement.
