Description:

Transylvania University a top-tier, independent, residential liberal arts college of 1,000 students in Lexington, Kentucky, is searching for a qualified Assistant Technical Director. This is a part-time, on-campus position. Transylvania University recognizes that a diverse and inclusive community is essential to the fulfillment of our mission as a liberal arts institution. Candidates are encouraged, in their cover letter, to identify their strengths and experiences in creating an inclusive community, as well as their management style and critical thinking ability.

The Assistant Technical Director reports to the Production Coordinator and is responsible for helping to maintain the facilities and equipment of the Mitchell Fine Arts Center, with a focus on stage and performance-related areas. The Assistant Technical Director must be able to work independently while maintaining effective communication with the Production Coordinator. Key responsibilities include training and managing student crews, professional overhire crews, and managing events in the Production Coordinator's absence. This role requires a high level of critical thinking with the ability to anticipate risks. This is a highly active and hands-on position, with approximately 80% of working time spent throughout the facility on projects or events, both with crews and independently. This includes working overhead at heights and in small spaces. Other duties include mixing audio, setting/designing lighting for events, operating fly systems, maintaining organizational systems, and liaising with various departments across campus.

This position averages 20 hours per week, with a combination of regularly scheduled and flexible hours, including nights and weekends, to support events.

A Bachelor of Arts in Theatre/related field or 3 years of experience in the live entertainment/performance industry is required. A Bachelor of Fine Arts is preferred. The ability to work with theatrical control systems is critical. Supplemental training and certifications such as specific control systems, rigging, basic first aid, diversity-equity-inclusion training, box office management, and other applicable certifications and education are desirable.

To begin the application process, please submit your resume and a cover letter, addressed to Michelle Bliffen, Vice President of Human Resources. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

Transylvania University is ranked in the top 15 percent of the nation's four-year colleges by The Princeton Review, which cites its community-driven, personalized approach to a liberal arts education through 49 majors and 40 minors. Founded in 1780, it is the 16th oldest institution of higher learning in the country, with approximately 1,000 students.

Transylvania University is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to enhancing the diversity of the university community. In support of this goal, we seek qualified candidates with a wide range of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences. We embrace diversity and encourage all who are interested to apply.
