Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:
• Provides feedback to service line coordinators and RN circulators regarding appropriate documentation
• Communicates with purchasing and revenue integrity to ensure accurate portrayal of usage and monetary value of items is documented and accounted
• Completes a review of all charts documented, as finalized in the Operating Room, to ensure all implants are documented and charging appropriately.
• Reviews the case level and any other inconsistencies in the supply documentation.
• Maintains a running log of all documentation discrepancies for supervisor follow-up.
• Refers and informs appropriate supervisors of problem situations/incidents requiring follow-up.
• Recognizes and utilizes the contributions of other healthcare professionals and departments.
• Able to utilize Inventory Management system to check descriptions, prices, and active status of all applicable charted implants.
• Places a manual hold for every implantable device or chargeable supply that is not setup in Lawson.
• Assists with obtaining accurate information for patient charts when needed.
• Maintains aseptic environment through, Changing in and out of hospital-approved scrubs upon entering or leaving work; Laundering any outside jackets or scrub hats daily; Keeping a clean and tidy workspace
• All other assigned duties related to attending the operating room
Education and Experience
• BSN + 3 years in nursing
OR
• Graduate of an accredited RN School of Nursing + 5 years of experience in
the operating room
• +1 year of experience with medical billing OR Cerner systems
Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
• Basic Life Skills Certification (BLS)
Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of surgical procedures, supplies, and implantable devices.
• Knowledge of Det Norske Veritas (DNV) regulations as they relate to the overall facility.
• Understanding of OR Materials Management as related to implantable devices.
• Computer skills required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (including, but not limited to, Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.), Cerner, IDX, and other applicable hospital-based programs as they pertain to the required job duties.
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position requires close interaction with OR Materials Management, OR Service Coordinators, OR Staff and Physicians, UMC Purchasing, UMC Revenue Integrity, and third-party vendors.
Physical Capabilities
Physical demands are minimal, the employee is regularly required to push, pull, and/or lift up to 10 pounds. There are extended periods of time standing/sitting and/or frequent walking. Effective communication with physicians and OR staff is critical. Near visual acuity required to work with computer and paper documentation.
Environmental/Working Conditions
This position is subject to indoor temperature changes. Work done intraoperative is performed in a high- risk area for exposure to blood borne pathogens.
