Description
The Life Enrichment Assistant assists the Life Enrichment Director develop, organize, implement, and evaluate the activities programs and events of the health care facility. Promotes a positive physical and psychosocial environment for the residents through social, educational, recreational, spiritual and therapeutic individual and group activities, as listed on the activity calendar. Provides assistance to transport residents to activities at the community and on van outings. Works collaboratively with leadership and other staff members to support the Mission and Values of SCBMA.Requirements:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead large or small groups and individual activities and events throughout the day designed to meet the various needs of residents within the community while monitoring resident safety and modify/intervene if necessary
Effectively encourage and actively promote optimal participation and engagement in activities by providing modifications and assistance as needed
Provide individual sessions for residents in need of specialty programming or accommodation
Communicate with supervisor or lead staff on a regular basis regarding assigned tasks, scheduled programming, suggestions, change of stat, incidents, etc.
Willing to independently research related to new activities, events and opportunities to improve life enrichment for our residents
Visit and encourage residents each day, provide resident birthday or other special occasion recognition
Maintain accurate recordkeeping as assigned
Assist with directing volunteers at the community
Assist in transporting residents to and from activities at the community and on van outings
Ensure activity workspace reflects professionalism ensuring safety
Be a good steward of activity equipment and supplies
Ensure compliance with all regulations from DHEC, Fire and Safety, OSHA, Labor Laws, etc. and adhere to HIPAA confidentiality standards.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
High School Diploma (or GED)
Valid SC driver’s license and 3 year clean driving record, ability to drive activities bus
1 year related experience in recreational therapy or activities, prior long term care preferred
Understanding of physical and psychological effects of the aging process
Ability to communicate with residents, staff, family members, visitors and the public utilizing excellent customer service skills.
Ability to relate positively, influentially and sensitively to a broad spectrum of persons in a variety of multi-tiered relationships and settings
Some knowledge of state and federal regulations that pertain to the activities for residents in a long term care facility.
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to maintain patient, tactful composure when dealing with residents, family members, staff and visitors
Well organized, flexible and good team player

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Exposure to biological agents such as viruses and other microbes
Occasional work during off hours including weekends, nights or holidays
Ability to lift or move 40 pounds
Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time
Strength, mobility and stamina to make frequent location and position changes, perform resident care to transfer residents and perform other physical tasks as needed
