About This Role:

Windstream is seeking a skilled IP Network Engineer with a strong background in telecommunications, focusing on supporting Network Optimization initiatives. This role involves designing and implementing network changes in support of modernization, consolidation, and decommissioning projects. Additionally, providing guidance to Network Optimization teams on how their engineering may impact the network and intake escalations if IP troubleshooting assistance is required. This position can be filled remotely anywhere within the country.

What You’ll Do:

Network Design and Implementation: Design, configure, and deploy IP networks adhering to published standards, in support of facility exits or consolidations. Ensure network solutions align with business requirements and support cost savings initiatives.

Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Publish MOPs, peer-review, and communicate network activity within change control systems, then deploy those planned configuration changes within maintenance windows based on risk assessment. Utilize diagnostic tools to baseline, analyze, and resolve network problems efficiently.

IP Address Management: Deploy, optimize, or reclaim IP addressing schemes and subnet allocation in support of backbone and management network routing simplification and efficiency. Utilize IPAM tools, automation, and best practices to maintain data integrity. Provide assistance to the Network Optimization organization in readdressing requirements related to departmental projects.

Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of network design, configurations, and changes, with a focus on timeliness in cross-departmental project dependencies. Prepare reports on network performance, issues, and solutions for management review.

Project Management: For IP network-initiated projects, lead tasks from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints. Coordinate with vendors and stakeholders to achieve project objectives while supporting Network Optimization deadline goals.

Technical Support and Training: Provide technical support and guidance to team members and other departments. Conduct training sessions to enhance the team's knowledge and skills in IP networking. Publish policy, procedure, and technical guides to ensure best-practices are strictly followed.

Do You Have?

Bachelor's degree in computer, communication, electrical engineering, or equivalent

Minimum seven (7) years of experience in the network and telecom field

Strong understanding of IPv4 & IPv6 addressing and subnetting

Experience with routing protocols, and proficiency in MPLS technology, including L2/L3 VPN and traffic engineering

Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure

Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders

Working Conditions:

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Availability for after-hours scheduled maintenance, between 00:00 & 06:00 weekdays (weekend maintenance is uncommon, but not unlikely)

Virtual office supporting organizations in Eastern, Central, and Pacific time zones, with workspace allowing for interaction on camera and sharing with other employees

Minimum Requirements:

College degree in Engineering or a related field and 2-4 years professional level experience; or 6+ years professional level related Engineering/Technical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related Engineering/Technical experience required.

The compensation range for this position is from $63,400 - $83,200.
