Robert Half is looking for an Assistant Controller for a client in the western suburbs. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented and driven individual with a strong technical accounting background and hands-on experience in external reporting. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in ensuring compliance with accounting standards, enhancing external reporting processes, and supporting the overall financial operations of the organization. Successful candidates will possess a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate across teams effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Accounting:
- Research and apply accounting standards (GAAP, IFRS, etc.) to ensure accurate and compliant financial reporting (Source: RH Acronym Guide.docx).
- Provide technical accounting guidance for complex transactions, including M& A activities, consolidations, revenue recognition, and lease accounting.
External Reporting:
- Prepare and oversee external financial reports, including quarterly and annual SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, etc.), ensuring accuracy and alignment with regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with internal departments and external auditors to facilitate timely filings and support audit processes.
Financial Operations:
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including consolidation and reconciliation of accounts.
- Develop and enforce internal controls to maintain financial integrity, accuracy, and transparency.
- Support budget preparation, forecasting, and analysis to inform strategic decision-making.
Team Collaboration and Leadership:
- Partner with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to deliver actionable insights into financial performance.
- Mentor and support accounting staff, promoting professional development and continuous improvement.
Successful Assistant Controller will have the following qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and CPA required
- Master's degree in Accounting preferred
Experience:
- Minimum 10-15 years of progressive accounting experience including 6+ years in public accounting
- Strong focus on technical accounting and external reporting
Skills:
- Proficient in accounting systems and advanced Excel skills.
- In-depth understanding of US GAAP and SEC regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with excellent attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across departments and external stakeholders.
This position offers a salary range of $185-215K plus bonus and long term incentives and comes with a full benefit package (medical, dental, vision, 401k, paid time off).
