The Civil Engineer - Renewable Energy will be based in our Arlington, Virginia headquarters or remote in Mid-Atlantic region. In this role you will be a part of civil engineering department responsible for overseeing third party consultants, and provide in house support on civil engineering aspect of the project for project development, M&A, and construction of utility solar array projects. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working on in-house civil design focused on geotechnical and structural including with managing the third-party consultants for site development and land use design.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Perform review of geotechnical reports from third party consultants to identify potential geotechnical risks of the project.
Perform the corrosion analysis to ensure the durability of the piles and foundations.
Perform desktop studies for preliminary foundation designs and site assessments.
Prepare scopes of work and support the bidding process and decision making to hire civil/geotechnical subcontractors.
Collaborate with different stakeholders of projects to support geotechnical and structural aspect from predesign to construction of the project.
Stay updated on industry trends, standards, and best practices in geotechnical and structural engineering.
Perform site visit with internal team and with consultants to identify site development, construction risk, and find a solution with designs.
Work with racking, steel, invertor, and other suppliers to understand their product, and ensure optimum structural design meeting the AHJ standards.
Manages efforts to problem solve for engineering challenges and coordinates with project consultants and site managers.
Plans and coordinates the work of engineering contractors and staff, ensures that they meet goals and objectives.
Qualifications
BA in civil engineering.
EIT certification required, working towards a P.E. license.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in geotechnical and or structural engineering, with a focus on civil constructions and foundation design .
Proficiency in geotechnical software like L-Pile
Undergraduate degree in engineering or equivalent technical field.
Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
Experience in civil engineering codes, and standards.
Ability to analyze financial impacts of engineering requirements and challenges.
Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Team player with strong initiative.
